Listening to it again I realise this song is actually VERY GOOD.

I notice a French sort of style/theme to it, perhaps he recorded this over in Switzerland this summer.

Funny, but it seems that Prince is putting out a bunch of "feeler" songs to see if We and I mean We like the songs. It's like he's unsure of the music he puts out now. Back in the day Prince was like "This is my shit, it's funky, and you know you love it!" Now it's "I hope and think this is a good song? I hope my fanbase(the org)likes this?" Just play music! No need to put in religious beliefs or worry about "four letter words". Play what's in your heart Prince. If you want to be nasty, be nasty. If it feels so good to you where a curse comes out, then that's how you feel. Just let it ride!

to each their own. IMHO it just sounds so weak on the instrument side of things and just plain cheesey. Love the vocal, love the lyric but a potentially average /good tune has been made to sound like the life has been sucked out of it.

As for an album why do I get a horrible feeling that he has cobbled together a CD to sell alongside Andy Allos as a double pack. Hope I'm wrong.

I think it's quite hasty to deduct that P is using Purple Music out of lack of options, it may just be the wish for an exclusive european market (instead of a worldwide thing, he's done it before) and/or an independant label (as a statement that Prince is still an independent artist).

The paradox is that this song is so deeply rooted in an american music tradition that it's very unlikely that it's gonna appeal to european audiences as much as it could to american ones

hmmm, the When Doves Cry glasses, the ruffled shirt, the long regency style[amazing by the way] coat, the purple rain font. Evidence, my dear Dr.Watsons points to some revolution type activity perhaps? - 30 year anniverary in 2014 will be here before u know it.

Sure, it's nothing ground breaking, and re-uses some classic Prince hooks (1999 synth, TMWU vibe), but I dunno... there's just something about it that I like. Plus it's actually the kind of song I can play with mates in the car and not have to worry about getting jibed for listening to "that skinny MF with the high voice" . OMG... Have I gotten to that age where I fit the 'Adult Contemporary' market? Why, I never!!
