I went to my local Amoeba and found a used copy of one of my fave albums from Prince. I was wondering if there are album with the similar vibe or sound, e.g. flute, percussion, pyschedlica/neo pyschedelia funk, pop which was produced in Around the world in a day! Thank you in advance. I just love the juxtapositon of Prince's sound with the Pyschedelic-ness of the album! lets show some love to this album!

Well, Parade continued the vibe in a more funk type way, but overall the outtake album Dream Factory is probably your absolute best bet. Songs like "Train" are certainly what you're looking for. Outside of that...OK, I know I'm gonna get a list of people not agreeing with this...but...I'd say Planet Earth was a semi-return to that vibe, with title track, One U Wanna C and ("gulp!") Revelation.

i omitted acciently the actual question from my thread, similar sound albums from other artist that sound similar to around the world in a day!

He put the flute back into Gett Off! And that song does have finger cymbals too, doesn't it?

If you're talking about other artists, it's harder to think of albums that mixed modern funk, pop, rock with psychedelic & "world" music touches like Around The World in a Day.

Some albums that might have a little bit in common with ATWIAD:

Wendy and Lisa: Eroica (They use some unique instruments like an oud, hurdy gurdy, tamboura, and electric cello, while the songs combine rock, pop, funk, and folk).

Terence Trent D'arby: Neither Fish Nor Flesh (A more experimental follow-up to a commercially successful previous album, wiuth more psychedelic influenced production style and gospel-influenced vocals)

Sheila E. in Romance 1600 (Made during the same era as ATWIAD)

The Family also continues the vibe - that with Romance 1600 are probably the closest. I guess maybe Adam Ant's "Strip" could fit in there... maybe.

I would say Dream Factory music more than Parade,

Parade to me doesn't feel anything like ATWIAD -which feels more like Purple Rain music(you can easily mix PR music into a ATWIAD playlist and it feel the same.

Parade to me sorta stands on it's own, definately a more European/Parisian-French feel to the music

and then some songs like like Christopher Tracey's Parade that is just wonderfully colorful and unable to fit into any kind of genre

Start listening to all the extended versions (Paisley Park, Raspberry Beret, Poplife (2x), America) and B-sides (Girl, She's always in my hair, Hello) of ATWIAD....otherwise the Parade album, but that's more jazz/funk-influenced than psychedelic...

Oh, and I forgot the track "For the tears in your Eyes". Together with the tracks above, you can make your own psychedelic-Prince compilation!

I always felt that 4 the Tears in Your Eyes sounded like something from the PR era

A lot of the Family music original studio pieces with the Revolution sounded like PR music, I STILL LOVE the original Nothing Compares 2 U sorta feels like Another Lonely Christmas

That's what I thought as well!

ATWIAD is a weird animal, sometimes I feel like playing it, at other times I think it's just "Raspberry Beret" that's exciting to hear.

And Tambourine and America and the title track and Pop Life! =P the remaining songs I love too, but they sound kind of weird at some listens. Yet, these five, flawless pop, take anytime and forever on!

The title track and "Pop Life" are my favorites, but I love listening to the album in full....puts me in a good place.
