^ No i def don't think the 2011 version is from 1988, he wasn't capable of that lapse in quality then (also Rihanna wasn't around).

However, what he could have done is pulled out the 1988 remix as a base to it and then expanded on it on the extended part we now have. Ie. kept the multi tracks with the instruments he used then and then added more on top.

He's known for tinkering and adding to older songs.

Alternatively he could have just re-recorded the whole thing using those instruments. Really what I was saying this could be argued until the cows come home until we get some kind of info. The guys at princevault.com are usually pretty good at ascertaining dates.

as always I am totally appreciative of the gesture, these freebies are always welcome.

However, am I missing something?, do I need to get my hearing tested? because to me it's just background noise with very little to like. If so many on here dig it then that's cool but I 'll pass.

No, your hearing is fine. It's nothing but noise. To even name this cacophony "Extralovable Remix" is an affront to the original outtake. Makes absolutely no sense....

I love this, but it really is just an extended version of 2011, right? I do notice the same notes as the 80s version at midpoint, but for the most part this sounds like the 2011 version with a nice 2012 update. I do like the keys around the 6:00 mark.

Also, I'm curious as to why the mods don't want to chance posting the link here. I'm 99.9% certain that the source had permission to make the song public. I can't see the source going rogue at this point. Again, I'm just curious--not trying to incite a riot.

The question is... why?

In the last few weeks, we've gotten a new song to promote a concert run, and remixed bit of the single he put out a year ago for the same purposes.

Is this all adding up to something?

The last time we got this much new material through various odd sources was in the run-up to the announcement of 20TEN. Purple & Gold, Cause & Effect, Hot Summer.

These little bits are obviously being orchestrated. Schizophrenically and shamolically to be sure, but orchestrated nonetheless.

Very good observation Errant...There's definitely something in the works. The only question I have is if he's trying to stir some buzz for Andy's impending album (which may by the case give how this was released and the subject matter of RNR Affair), or if he is setting the stage for his own release. It will be interesting to see how the rest of 2012 plays out in the Prince world.

I love when he goes all "mad genius" on our asses. The rapid-fire sample triggers, jockeying from instrument to instrument with ease, all the while creating an interesting soundscape, taking you on a journey, and of course keeping it funky. Unbelievable. dead

fuck me i really do need to go back and listen to this again!. Your description should apply to I wish u heaven parts 1,2&3 - now THAT is mad genius!!

wow, just listened to it again properly and it's...............still total & utter crap. Free crap granted, but crap nonetheless - there's a reason why some things are just given away !!

Each to their own, enjoy your 'extraloveable' experience !!.

...it sounds like it took all of 3 mins to do, wow.

Rather than just flicking through a few bad keyboard sounds of pianos and clavinets and playing the first thing that comes to mind, if Prince actually bothered to take the time and mic up a real piano for once he might be a little more selective as to what he records.

I dont like it and this ^^^^ may be the reason why! its sounds odd!

Actually it's kinda twisted genius payback. Prince came down hard on sites posting Princely things, and now when he wants folks to visit a certain someone's facebook page to promote her album through a Prince track as bait, the site blocks the links per Prince's own previous tantrumount wishes. lol

Too funny.

I can see how people would say it's nothing special, but let me ask:

Would you rather have this brand of 'nothing special', or RNR Affair's brand of 'nothing special'?

I've always taken the position that since Prince isn't contractually obligated to release music any longer that anything he does put out is gravy. It doesn't mean the song is great or horrible but it's a gift. The truth is he doesn't have to record another song in his lifetime to live and he surely doesn't have to release new music to make money. He seems to just be having fun with it doing what he pleases(however much that irritates some of his hardcore fanbase). He spoke about freedom for so long but even after Warners he stayed in that mindframe of being at a label(singles, yearly releases). Now he really seems free from it all.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

There are at least three fan-made Extralovable remixes.

And what good is a release through a record label without physical media?

Also: the CENSORED link to the remix is still up.

So - despite DMCA, etc - we must assume that mr P is OK with this.

I read somewhere that the single is RnR Affair.

The release-status of Extralovable is vague to me.

Not at all.

Check the earlier poster who pointed out the kind of instruments and 'Batman' era sounds from 1988. I would say 1988 with recent overdubs.

I'd say it's 2011, with some stuff from the 1988 version overdubbed on it.

Unless the 2011 version is just updated from the 1988 version.

Not hearing any "Batman era" sounds or instruments at all here. Same "generic keyboard presets" we've been hearing for awhile now. I wish he'd snatch up all those old electronics he threw out years ago where you could create your own sounds from them and come up with something unique and funky. Not these toy keyboard preset sounds. LOL

Unless I missed something this is just an instrumental version of the 2011 release. Kinda like Disco Jellyfish = Chocolate Box. Same song, no vocals with some extra keyboards fiddling about.

Never had the pleasure of hearing the remix from 88 but I really don't think this version has anything to do with 1988 at all. Now if only that version would surface..................... beg
