They "look" quite a bit a like.

No they don't, aside from the obvious hair, which Esperanza started wearing first, several years ago.

Yes besides that Esperanza actually has musical talent! She's been teaching the base since the age of 15, increible gifted musician which I cant say about Andy who's a model turned artist.

Is she any good? I've never heard anything from her...

We saw her at Ravinia this summer and she was pretty great.

I have to agree. Her Ravinia performance was pretty great.

I would really like to see her. I'm not too keen on her latest album though, I prefer her when she is more "jazz."

Yeah, I don't like Radio Music Society nearly as much as Chamber Music Society. The only quibble I had with her Ravinia show is that she didn't do anything from her previous releases. It was all from RMS. Still and all, it was a very enjoyable show.

Well, she did end with "Precious" and she did "I Know You Know," but those are from Esperanza. I distinctly remember those because they are two of my favorites. But, yes she did play mostly RMS songs.

I can't believe folks here are comparing Esperanza to Andy. Stop it. Esperanza is a true artist. She has won several prestigous awards for outstanding musicianship and was hired to teach by Berkley College of Music at the tender age of 20. She has played at the request of President Obama for the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremonies and at the Umbria Jazz Festival. Andy strums a guitar (often not with a mic) on occasion and has yet to even do a guitar solo in person. Please don't say Andy and Esperanza in the same sentence again. It's disrespectful.

Actually, I wasn't talking about your post. I was talking about a couple of other posts where folks said that Andy's voice was like hers and that Andy's music style was like hers. It was just blasphemy.

not to mention their music sounds nothing alike.. The afro is the only thing that makes them comparable...

Prince had nothing to do with Esperanza Spalding's success - and to assert that is just moronic.

not at all, Esperanza is a 'Jazz' artist

she was christened by Pat Metheny "that she had a lot to say and was also unlike any musician I had ever run across before. Her unique quality is something that goes beyond her pretty amazing musical skills; She has that rare 'x' factor of being able to transmit a certain personal kind of vision and energy that is all her own."

Patti Austin, Joe Lovano, President Barack Obama @ the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony

bassist Stanley Clark featured her on a song All Over Again that gave a lot of notice to her

Spalding cites jazz bassists Ron Carter and Dave Holland as important influences on her music; Carter for the "orchestration" of his playing and Holland for the way his compositional method complements his personal style. She has described the saxophone player Wayne Shorter, and singer-songwriter Milton Nascimento, as heroes. She has also noted her preference for the music of Brazil.

She has said she models her career on those of Madonna and Ornette Coleman

Thanks for telling the truth smile lol! I started listening to her because I read that she was inspired by Milton Nascimiento (one of the greatest artists in brazil) on her Esperanza album from 08. SHE has real talent, not like Andy smile...
