It's Michael B who plays the drums on Colonized Mind.

As for your question, I always liked the drumming on Madhouse 8.

Really? Thanks, I thought Prince did the instrumentation on LotusFlower....I love the drums on that song. Do you think Prince wrote the drums and Michael B just plays them, or did Prince let Micheal B come up with his own ideas?

I have no idea how the writing process worked on this album, but here is some more album information http://www.princevault.co...otusflow3r

For info on individual songs, who played what etc, just use the a-z song list section http://www.princevault.co..._song_list

The snare/hi hat/bass drum work on "Lady Cab Driver" always does it for me.

I like irresistable bitch. It's not fancy, but I like the pocket and the fills toward the end. As an engineer, I also love the overall thickness of drum recording.

Sexual Suicide is one of my favorites! smile

I love how he programmed the drumming on 'Parade'

How he did the first four tracks, in sequence sounds so good!

I also love...

Baby (For You)

Tambourine

Dead On It

It's amazing what Prince can do with a simple Lin-Drum!

AND I agree with you guys on 'Irresistible Bitch'

Yes, this is what came to my mind first. IIRC, he recorded all the live drums on the first three-four tracks on that record from scratch in one session, no other music, just drums first then adding the other instruments in turn.

Also have to mention his drumming on Crystal Ball (the track) is great too. He has a great 'feel' when playing drums on these and elsewhere.

From what I remember, Prince played this. I heard Shelia.E taught him the pattern and what not, but that he played them.

"The liner notes in Crystal Ball state that Sheila E. showed Prince how to play the drumbeat, but she is not given any writing credit. Sexual Suicide was initially placed as the tenth and final track on an April, 1986, configuration of the Dream Factory album. It was included as the twelfth and final track (tenth song) on the first disc of a 3 June, 1986, configuration of the album. The track was removed from the album before the last known configuration, dated 18 July, 1986, before the album was ultimately abandoned.

-PrinceVault

So I am assuming, she created the pattern, but he actually played it? It sounds like him..When prince is on the drums...it sounds so frenzied and very loose...which is why I think he played it on Sexual Suicide....If you listen to it..it sounds like him. lol

The first two that spring to mind are Crystal Ball and Musicology.

The only albums that the drumming really stood out to me was the symbol album, chaos and disorder and the gold experience. Those three albums the drums rock for me!! His other albums really dont stand out to me as far as drums. I agree with you on Colonized mind though. That is actually one of my alltime favorite Prince songs

I put 8 on sometimes for the drumming alone! Great album and an awesome drum sound. I am still not convinced it's not Sheila though. Prince folklore says otherwise, but until I hear it from Sheila herself, I will remain not fully convinced. But incredibly great drumming from whoever is behind that kit.

If im not mistaken, I belief the hi hats/claps and possibly the kick are linn. However, it sounds as if the snare was overdubbed live. The hi hats remain consistent, while he's doing pocket and rolls on an acoustic snare. I love his blend of live and machine drums.
