The Exodus Has Begun - Xpedition (Head Phone Busters!)

If you have an opportunity to listen to these songs..JUST GO HEAD AND Listen to them again! WITH HEADPHONES!!!

Have you ever just had shuffle on while listening to Prince, and one of those songs you forgot comes on, and blows you away from some days. When you are literally just high on those songs, trying to figure out the mindset he had when he recorded it?

Well..The Exodus Has Begun and Xpedition has done that to me recently!

THE EXODUS HAS BEGUN

Moments to look for: HAVE MERCY! lol

Prince's proclamation to WB is crazy, silly, and wild. The DEEP Voice has returned with a vengeance!

"Just cause it's nasty, don't mean it's bad..All that is good is NASTY'

5:21-38... (Crazy Horns! How could we forget about them??? Some of the best, I heard on record)

Then, that falls into one of the wildest guitar solos...Prince looses his mind on that one!...

"Yes, Mother Fu**ker Yes!" Hahaha...

"AND; if when the people ask you everywhere, is that really all your hair, tell them you don't tell a lie... Bald-headed son of a motherf*ckin' housefly..

(On A side note..Prince obviously, has been asked since 95' if he had a lot hair..so when people ask in 2012..and recently when he had a bush..is that really all his hair...We should tell them he don't tell no lie...lol. Bald headed son of a...(Well..I would not say that..but you get the point. lol)

He picks up the solo to the front at 8:19-9:00

What the F*ck is that about? What the f*ck is that sh*t about???

Just crazy! HE really looses his mind on that one! One of the best closing to an amazing album! smile

DO you agree?

XPEDITION

I can't get enough of Xpedition, the guitar work is stellar! Just how crazy and wild this song is, it really confuses me as to how Prince really directs a song. It's just all over the place good! I just am curious if I am the only one? I checked some older threads about it, and I want to bring it into now...Don't you think it's one of his best instrumentals?

Some great points to look out for:

3:13-3:36 Crazy Bass Solo by Rhonda!

4:13-4:21 (SWING! It's almost like you can picture a group of people swinging, at this point!...CRAZY) I imagine this when I hear this:

5:11-25 ( Dude gets on the organ..and tears it up for a while)

The rest is pure heaven! Before heaven was paradise! lol

His guitar is on fire, and John is killing those drums! Candy is making candy with her saxophone!

He just sounds so angry at the 7:00-7:21, And then he comes back..with another piece of anger it seems 7:44-8:00 (When I say 'Angry' I mean...he translated his emotions in that guitar so well. I am not sure if he was angry at the time, but it sounds so inspiring, and I can just see him really forwarded whatever emotion he had aggressively in his instrument!

Not to mention Vanessa Mae, on the violin, truly just making some random pieces of music sugar!

Then the baby cries at the end! LOL..I love that for some reason!

I just wanted to share my enthusiasm with these songs, and ask you guys do you dig these songs as much as I do? YES, Prince is the artist on both of them. LOL. Xpedition and The Exodus Has Begun are in major contrast to one another, but they both sound amazing on headphones and in general. SO have you guys experinced a song on headphones where he blew you out the water? Please let me know!

Two of a few tracks not written in the 80s I always mention when compiling a Best Of list.

Prince is always amazing when he turns to a more experimental sound. A pity he doesn't do it more often.

I don't think it's one of his best, but I sure do like it. I listened to the album last night for the first time in a long time and had forgotten (almost) how good it is. I love the sound of Johns drumming throughout, and yes Prince's guitar work on Xpedition is on it.

It's probably one of his best albums of that period.

I would love an official cd or a proper lossless download of this album.

Yeah, I too dig the deep voice at the beginning of Exodus has Begun. P is definitely quoting from the book of early Funkadelic there.

And yeah, the whole Xpectation album is imo underated. Go compile a CD/ playlist of Xpectation with the CNOTE instrumentals and prepare to be impressed. cool

It's the attention to detail and little touches that help make Prince the great music artist he has been.

YES!!!! You are SO right about that! smile We can't forget about them!! These are some of the few times Prince seemed possessed in the studio..We know live he is stellar, but when delivers in the studio, sometimes he does not seem to get the full emotion as he does live, but these songs bring it!

I totally agree!!! When he does something experimental he just blows himself out the water twice over! It's crazy! He should only do stuff like this! It would be the sound of purple heaven! O YES! smile

YES! WHY did he not give a proper release of this? I can't understand why this was not released in CD format! It would be too legit for words! I just re-discovered it. I remember upon first listen a year ago, it was too mature for me..So I passed it up as being boring. I did not really pay attention to any details..I just listened to it while I worked. Which made me pass it up. But it wasn't until this year, where I was mind blown by all of the musicians on this record. Headphones HELP! All of the musicians are just on their A GAME! It's some serious stuff! John was perfect in his drumming! It's one of his best periods, and one of my favorites! Just out the water stuff! If he released it 'Officially' he would blow a lot people away I think! smile Thanks for your comment!

YES! smile HE was bringing the funk with that voice! AND I could not agree more that Xpectation is just so underrated. Crazy musicianship all over the place. I am going to do what you recommended and compile a playlist with some C-Note Instrumentals! smile Nagoya has to be one of his best instrumentals as well! I totally agree as well about the details which make his one of the greatest artists!

Well, as you undoubtedly know.. it was released officially through NPGMC, but only as a low bitrate download. Hearing the music in top notch quality would be cool. Still, at least we have it at all. wink

I agree with you about headphones too, it is very much a headphone album.
