This will surely be taken down in a couple of minutes, if you don't edit your post.

By the way, does anyone know of this was a recording session for Prince? Maybe he wanted to try horns on top of it, but in the end decided against it? Or do these people have nothing to do with Prince at all?

Doesn't this look like on of the stages in PP...?

Andy's rap part does sound better with the jazzy horn chords underneath it, although it may be "too much". If he'd decided for the horns, he'd have to leave out Andy's rap and make this an instrumental part, in my opinion.

So?

Does that make the media go away?

Why would they take it down?

Make them explain it is 'illegal'?

Everything with them is illegal unless proven otherwise.

Which is the world upside down.

Or maybe that is the USA.

No, not yet bashing, just asking.

We do not yet know what is the situation.

Where was it, why was it, etc.

It might be just the same as the baby dancing with LGC in the background.

Indeed a very clear case of lost money.

Because greed is all the drive for the copywrong people.

My mantra again:

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Nice, the linn kicks would make that just right

Also I know he has to use them since they are on the payroll

but maybe every song 1.) doesn't need horn sections 2.) he can use smaller groups of the players from 1 - 7 3.) maybe having too many on brass isn't good on this song trim it down 2 3 or 4

i wonder why they hit the jazzy solo runs over the top of andys rap instead of at the end where all the space for a horn run is ... maybe they hate the rap too .. i wonder if andy wrote a rap for old friends for sale yet .. i have concluded that prince is still a genius .. he just uses the wrong tools .. a lot .. these recent horn arrangements have been classic .. if prince put some horns in everytime he gets the urge to rap it would be a step in the right direction

I'm guessing this might have been a tryout they sent in, but I do know they are playing an M.B.Nelson horn arrangement for this tune that the Hornheads recorded early this year. The "jazzy solo" replaces the rap on that version.

Seeing the video of the live rendition done in Chicago posted by Andy Allo, I have a suspicion: It looks to me to be different cats playing than the ones in this video. Now, we also know that Prince recently worked with the old NPG Hornheads, led by Michael B Nelson on the Superconductor album. We also know of the similar 'sound' this has to the old NPG Hornheads...

So here's my suspicion: I think hired Michael B Nelson to do the arrangements, and that Prince will simply hire session players from the city that he's touring in to play the same arrangements (rather than having to pay for them as regular band members). Makes sense if you plan on doing 'residency' style shows - give the new horn section plenty of time to practice on their own before hand before the tour arrives. It would certainly be easier on Prince's budget.

I wonder how that works. Does Prince give MB Nelson (in this case) free rein to create an arrangement or is the arranger primarily there to help Prince with the notation?

The wooh is on the one!

Well, firstly, just to clarify that it's just my speculation, not based on any facts. But it would work something like this: Prince decides he wants some funky horn lines for the show. He calls MB Nelson and pays him to come up with the arrangements, probably based on some ideas that Prince has, as well as MB Nelson's own ideas. MB notates it all, having a much more complete knowledge of the instruments, their ranges, abilities, voicings etc. He gives them to Prince, who then hires session musos to play it at the show. That's how that kind of stuff normally works.
