Unreleased videos

Just picked up the new edition of Q magazine which lists the 100 most outrageous music stars. I cant remember what number he was but the article mentioned that Prince had made over 50 music videos that will never see the light of day, and that this kind of extravagance led to the deterioration with his relationship with Warners.

Does anyone have any information on any of these videos? Were they for proposed singles, or just stuff that he did for fun?

Prince records videos all the time.
Sometimes they're for potential singles
often they're for album tracks, b-sides
or unreleased songs that he has no
intention of releasing.

Kevin Smith mentioned this video thing too, thats where i heard it.

I think prince is just so use to a lot of things that he use to do freely, like make expensive videos. No matter how big or small his popularity is, Its something he loves.

It doesn't say that this kind of extravagance led to the deterioration of his relationship with Warners.

That's where Q magazine heard it too. The article basically quotes from Smith's recent release, referring to the 'camel at 3am' example, and then the non-release of videos anecdote, to illustrate their suggestion that 'Prince inhabits a different world to the rest of the human race.'

I read some interview with him saying
something that this is how his children will make money--from his completed
vault tracks etc.

When he resigned his Warners contract for $100 million or whatever it was, he used the money to make music and videos. I remember when REM done their big deal with Warners, writers said how the band invested the money from the contract wisely, unlike Prince who blows it on unreleased videos.

Jesus Christ, who pissed you off? I correct myself...it didnt say that this was one of the factors that led to the deterioration of his relationship with warners, but it is mentioned in the biography Slave 2 the Rhythm (not a great book by the way) from a Warners source, that they couldnt justify the huge expenses incurred by Prince when filming all these unreleased videos / projects, and that this caused a lot of impatience on Warners part.

And if youre gonna be pedantic about it, not sure you would class Liberace and Dolly Parton as Rock stars over music stars.

No, I wouldn't class them as Rock stars - and nor did Q magazine - my mistake. Mind you, Q magazine never even referred to them as 'music' stars.

Sounds crazy eh? But this article made out that that's what he done, and vaulted it all.

I think he done some videos with it, but not the entire $100million.

Considering that he never got anywhere near $100 million out of WB, despite what the PR dept. said, he probably didn't spend that much on videos.
