Prince's growth??
I haven't even heard the albums Elixer or Milk & Honey..... (and I don't want to, I have heard the live version of Redhaired Stepchild, what a crappy song...yuck).
about: Rock & Roll Love Affair - the new song, this sure is very bad in a very bad way.
This song reminds me of a bad cover version of "Cream". It's unbearable.
About Andy Allo, I couldn't care less about the new album.
I have nothing positive to say in general, about Prince atm. He bores me.
The interview on The View, oh dear. About 1999 The New Master, Jehovah, Charity......
Oh noooo, where is the cool Prince where has he gone..
a bit off topic, sorry. I just had to let my frustrations come out.

thedance,
You are fine; feel free to vent.
Personally speaking, though, given that you love Prince's sterling musical productions in 1987/1988, I think you might actually be missing a trick, by closing your eyes/ears to something quite enjoyable with regards to the topic at hand.
I find his growth during these musical side projects something quite refreshing, especially when you see how these women are slowly but surely "refuelling" a more organic growth/love for producing what Prince deems credible works of art.
Elixir, in and as of itself, is quite remarkable, as an organic piece of music and a story about his position on romance. Without his relationship with Bria, I don't think he would be re-emerging to, once again, reflect on love (destiny/soulmates) with such an open heart, as he now references in lines like, "When stars collide..."
cue the music: Immersion

Spiritotter, I noticed changes in Prince during his time with Tamar. He seemed to act with Tamar the same way he is acting with Andy. Bria also brought out excitement in him. I love "Immersion and Elixir". I remember the performance that Prince first performed with Tamar on the NAACP Awards, his lifetime achievement with Angela Bassett and Cornel West presenting. His organic nature was also coming through in the way Tamar dressed and the way Prince conducted his band.
With Bria, Prince was also feeling renewed. I just don't want Andy to be thrown under the bus by Prince if "SuperConductor" doesn't get the kind of response that Prince expects. I hate to say it, but it feels like when "Milk and Honey" didn't get the distribution that Prince expected. Prince got bored and moved on to the next "protege". I loved "Milk and Honey". It was well orchestrated and stronger than "Elixir".
Also Spiritotter, you have a wonderful way of bringing out the best in your other Prince.org comrades (Vitrol). LOL! Your conversation sure made my day... "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

Contrary to most, I kinda like Elixir. Nice layed back jazzy music. As for growth, as a songwriter Prince seems to be going round in circles. He doesn't want to write those sexually explicit lyrics anymore because of his religion, but doesn't really have anything else to offer. So he writes idealized love songs. Maybe those young girls just don't inspire him the way a woman like Susannah did. Just guessing... R&R Affair is OK, but nothing new.

I listened to Milk & Honey and found it OK in places. I've never spun Elixir, pretty much no interest in Superconductor. It's all so predictable. Not interested in his latest squeeze's work.
It's not like these girls are a Sheila or a Mavis y'know, an artist with a proven musical background that brings something of themselves to the table. Even when that was the case with Chaka Mad, it was a middling album. He's just not the forward thinking producer he was either.
I just feel Prince needs to concentrate and come back hard with an album of his own. Going by the tepid MOR-sounding RnR Affair, i won't hold my breath.
