Will Prince ever be on the radio again?? Does anyone think that he has what it takes to make a hit again that will get regular play on the radio?

Honey, who cares is Prince is on the radio again? I understand how you feel, but Prince is no longer in the web of the music industry and the payola that still goes along with it...to answer your question. Unless there is a definite change in the music industry as a whole...nyet, no, nada.... "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

His music has been played on radio stations that play hits from back in the day. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Yeah I know his old stuff is played on the oldies stations and what not and I know RNR was just played as well but what I mean to ask is do you guys think its in him to ever make a hit song that will get heavy rotation on the radio like on the top 40 stations? Or is it over and the only way to listen to anything new will be to track it down in any way possible as i did with RNR

He has what it takes and don't rule it out but it's unlikely without some major changes in his approach to things.

i dont think hes interested enough in having one..

I suspect he won't but not because he's not intererested in it - although many of the kool aid drinkers here think that his last attempt (RR Affair) simply just doesn't count as an attempt.
Prince just isn't bringing the goods these days. I still like some of the music but he certainly isn't writing hits nor is he playing the major label game so hold on to 1994 - the last time he was really played.

Uh, she is not. Her last two singles did not make a dent in both the US and UK.
Prince won't be played on the radio ever again and I don't see how that affects anyone's appreciation of his music. It's not like you can't decide what you wanna listen to, right?

So RNR affair SOUNDS like an attempt to getting back to mainstream radio to u?

Unless radio starts playing better music, I hope he's never played on radio again. Andy is a four letter word.

[Edited 9/22/12 6:30am] Not only does it sound like an attempt, the fact that he's teamed up with a company to get it heard all over America is proof enough that he's absolutely still very interested in having a hit. The fact that there are folks out there who think this isn't an attempt is bizarre! Whatever [Edited 9/22/12 21:04pm]

i think you'll find that once Mr Nelson's Hair has achieved critical radial coverage, you will have learnt how to program a bloody bassline on Google Doodle #447
if you see what i mean

That's the right question to ask. Prince's music will be available in whatever formats exist in the future, but the concept of "radio" is nearing its end. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Blacksweat and Future Baby Mama both got airplay although not as much if he had been on WB. If you don't gain anything by playing the artist on your radio why play them? That's corporate radio talking. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Nowadays, "being on the radio" means "number of iTunes downloads" and "number of Youtube views"
Prince sucks at both...

I'm sorry... this isn't true at all.
Being on radio still means that the song is catchy and has a message that people dig.
Sure, there are a lot of songs and artists out there who stink but Prince hasn't been releasing classics for the better part of a decade now.

Correction: being on radio means there is a major label behind the act who pumps money into him/her and the radio programmers decide the artist is for their target audience who will hear them commercials. Radio is controlled and the quality or the message of the song has nothing to do with it.

DING! DING! DING! Right answer The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Not sure what he was thinking by putting it out on radio but
the song dosent even have a chorus.. having a chorus would make it sound much more like an attempt to get a hit single..
| |

Radio was 'controlled' back in the 80s and 90s too but to neglect the fact that you often need a good song to get over is an attempt to make another excuse for Prince isn't it?
While Prince was all over the charts during the 80s and early 90s, Warner Bros. were paying stations to play material as well.
While I'm not much of a fan of radio music these days, it certainly doesn't mean that there aren't any artists out there who are having commercial success all the while writing songs with great melodies, great lyrics and great/intriguing music.

Actually the fact that it doesnt have a chorus makes it different already so its got legs! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Difference is not something that radio embraces nowadays.. If u turn on the radio you'll hear a lot of the same. And the fact that most non serious music listeners pay attention to hooks first gives this song no chance of becoming a hit.. [Edited 9/23/12 10:43am]

The future is internet radio, and yes Prince is gonna have his paws all in that shit. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

I know radio was controlled back then as well (obviously, there's always more music produced than available airtime!) but I don't see how it's an excuse for Prince.
Just because you coincidentally think a song is good that gets played on the radio, that doesn't mean it's played "because it's good, is catchy, has great message" etc. Those are different qualities that have nothing to do with the popularity contest. Do you think if Prince had written and performed "Call Me Maybe", it would have been a hit?
