Diamonds and Pearls Holographic Cover

I was just wondering how special it is to find the D&P album with the holographic image nowadays. Because just a few weeks ago I happened upon one and thought it was so cool. But at the time I was birthday shopping for my Daddy, I got him a bunch of records, oldschool soul and rnb stuff like he likes. razz

The store I went to sells a bunch of secondhand stuff like that and the records I got my father were in really good condition. Because I know next to nothing about records my mom showed me how to tell if they were damaged or not. But the store had the 1999 album and Around The World In A Day on vinyl and both looked pretty good, I wanted them sooo bad especially ATWIAD! They also had a LP that had Erotic City on one side...I don't remember what was on the other side. But it was stratched. Now that I'm not too broke anymore I was thinking about going back and getting some of this stuff. Thoughts, all the diehard collecters out there?

I don't think that Diamonds and Pearls holographic cover is that rare, i've seen it around quite a bit in shops, infact the original normal cover seems to be harder to find from memory.

We're here, might as well get into it.

@Toofunkyinhere- Oh, well that's okay. They still look so nice I'd like to have them anyway.

@djThunderFunk- I'm definetely going back to get those, two of my favorite albums! biggrin

@purplemajesty23- Aww...I'm sorry. The place I went too isn't just for selling records, they have a bunch of books and other stuff people brought in to sell or trade. You might be able to find someplace somewhere.

Yeah, I don't think it's rare.

Do holograms age, btw? Because I can't seem to get any image to show up from most angles on that thing anymore. lol

It isn't rare at all, since that's the only version released in the US. However many copies it's certified with the RIAA for in the US would be a could estimate of however many there are out there. Plus whatever other countries had the hologram cover release.

I don't think it's the age. I think it's the wear on it from sliding past the plastic jewel case. Pretty sure mine is the same way, but I haven't really bothered to look closely at it in about 20 years.

Really? I did not know that.

I seem to remember that when it was released in the UK initial copies were printed with the hologram, then when they ran out, they introduced the blue cover.

I've never seen the blue cover at retail or in a used shop in the U.S. I would have bought one if I did.

In fact, the only copy I've ever held with a blue cover was an import (UK I think) that a friend owned.

Oh, I thought that the album was printed in two ways meaning that the one with the holographic cover was only available the first few weeks of the release and then after that it went to the normal cover. As like a special treat for the fans who would buy the album the second it hit the shelves. lol

And initiative for people who were hesitant to buy it in the first place. wink I don't know where I got that idea from.

Cheers.

The blue cover is the most common here in the UK, however, occasional copies of the hologram version pop up every now and again in HMV.
