Endings of Delirious and D.M.S.R. In both cases, I find these 1999 tracks end kind of abruptly.
The cooing baby at the end of Delirious, I'm sure everyone's got their theories about... whether it's the sound that best explains the ecstasy at the onset of delirium... or it was the product of said delirium...
but for a party like 'Dance Music Sex Romance" to end the way it does, I still don't get it. Was this meant to be a party in the streets and someone got a little too rowdy? Does it foreshadow "Automatic" where S&M is featured prominently?
I'm more curious about the latter, but intrigued about theories surrounding both had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I actually both those endings, but the 1999 is my favorite album of all time, so I'm a bit biased. I don't entirely understand them, but at thta time, he did quirky, weird stuff and it worked.

I think it's just one of those things that he does. He seems to experiment with different types of endings for his songs (not just fade outs or ending the song with a major chord). Actually, even that new song ("Rock'n'Roll Love Affair") has sort of a weird ending.

I never thought too much about it, and I never thought Prince did either - nice ideas though.
You can add the end of He's So Dull too, it's kind of a similar thing.

Agreed! He often has cool distinctive beginnings to his songs and abrupt and different endings.
RnR Affair is no different. A very recognizable beginning and an abrupt end that actually sounds like its the start of a funky track! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

My theory is that this album was when he first started extensively using the Linn so the basic tracks essentialy had cold endings once the drum sequence is stopped. If you notice he's also using a lot of stock sound effects on the this album too...
