If you don't pay your taxes, the IRS can get a lien on your property. Maybe when Prince said that "someone" would release his vault songs someday, he was thinking of the IRS.

They sent the summons to the wrong address. Hence the reason he wasn't aware of it.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Says who?

http://mobile.businesswee...nager-says

The business manager for Prince Rogers Nelson, the recording artist known as Prince, said her client will respond to a request from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for tax information.

The manager, Debra Whelan, said in an e-mailed statement today that until the inquiry was disclosed in the press, she was unaware of a “routine request” from the IRS claiming Prince failed to comply with a summons issued on behalf of French tax authorities.

“The IRS had incorrect information for service and left the notice at an address of record,” Whelan said in the statement. “Now that the matter has been brought to our attention, we will promptly respond and provide the requested information.”

The IRS asked the musician to appear in response to a inquiry from its French counterpart “to examine the French income tax liability of Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson for tax years 2009 and 2010,” according to the documents filed this week in federal court in Minneapolis.

Prince hasn’t responded, the IRS said. The petition asks the court to enforce the summons. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Oct. 18 before U.S. District Judge David S. Doty.

The French government lodged its request in July 2011 in a letter listing several concerts it believed Prince had played in France during the two years at question and asking for additional documentation about the relationship between the artist and the production and recording company Paisley Park Enterprises Inc.

The case is U.S. v. Nelson, 12-mc-00071, U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota (Minneapolis).

Rock Star Prince Failed to Comply With IRS Summons Over Taxes, U.S. Says

| Print |
September 18, 2012
(Bloomberg News) The Internal Revenue Service said Prince Rogers Nelson, known as the recording artist Prince, failed to comply with a summons issued on behalf of French tax authorities.

The IRS asked the pop singer to appear in response to a request from its French counterpart “to examine the French income tax liability of Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson for tax years 2009 and 2010,” according to the documents filed yesterday in federal court in Minneapolis.

Nelson hasn’t responded, the IRS said. The petition asks the court to enforce the summons. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Oct. 18 before U.S. District Judge David S. Doty.

The French government lodged its request in July 2011 in a letter listing several concerts it believed Prince had played in France during the two years at question and asking for additional documentation about the relationship between the artist and the production and recording company Paisley Park Enterprises.

Peter Gleekel, an attorney who has represented Prince, didn’t immediately respond to a phone call seeking comment on the summons. A second attorney, Traci Bransford, couldn’t be reached because her phone was disconnected.

Dan Applegate, an IRS lawyer, declined to comment.

The case is U.S.A. v. Nelson, 12-mc-00071, U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota (Minneapolis).

WHY you people get upset at this is beyond me.

This is between Prince and the IRS.

He always ends up paying eventually (late)

If he wants to pay late and any late fees etc...that is his perogitive.

Get over it and worry about your own financial matters.

He has never NOT paid his taxes and got into REAL tax trouble , ala Wesley Snipes and other celebs.....SMH

To Prince's credit, I'm a small business owner myself (a legit business with a storefront and services and merchandise, not selling stuff on Ebay or something) and the amount of tax stuff I have to keep track of day to day is staggering. The system is set up to be overly complex so that people have to pay late fees and the super rich can avoid getting taxed. Now, you multiply that by a tour that goes to a dozen different countries, and it's easy to see how some taxes could get mixed up in all the shuffling around.

This is no big biggie and he always ends up paying this type of stuff eventually.

We should guess that Prince doesn't do his own taxes. Blame it on bad accountants.

This is why artists do not tour overseas, too expensive.

The problem is that we would not know if the news didnt do a report on it. You dont see every artists tax filings in the news.... When someone approaches ME and tells me that they saw it ... I dont care what he does...but its like...come on now. I bet if my financial stats was in the news people would tell me I need to pay my taxes, but because I do...and Im not a celebrity then there is no need to.

The taxes are ridiculous. Usually if someone don't pay, it's usually because the tax price is high. Now I'm hearing they wanna tax the ones who have riches, which is ridiculous. I can now understand why Lauryn made her Tumblr rant. But apparently if there was miscommunication with Prince and the IRS, it can explain things.

Why do you have a stick up your ass about someone else's taxes? taxes were not paid on two French concerts. This is not a case of a not filing or paying Federal Taxes and who wants to pay taxes?

Isn't there an update where Prince's business manager has said they sent the documents to the wrong address which was why they didn't know anything about it until they read it in the paper?

Though you only have to look at what has happened in Greece to see what happens when people don't pay taxes

Unfortunately they don't.

How about Mitt Romney pulling in $32,000,000 and only paying $450 in taxes. The way the system is set up, the richest 0.01% use bullcrap tax shelters to not pay a cent and then break our backs so they can pay themselves to build another 5,000 Apache helicopters and send them into the war we're also paying for.
