Songs that deserved to chart better than they did So many of Prince's songs have gone under the commercial radar and undeservingly so. What songs would U say deserve alot more credit than they R given? Basically, list all the songs U feel deserved 2 do better than what they did on the charts, if they even charted at all. Here R mine:
Anna Stesia (Lovesexy) Do Me Baby (Controversy) Controversy (Controversy) Temptation (ATWIAD) Tamborine (ATWIAD) Raspberry Beret (ATWIAD) America (ATWIAD) Uptown (Dirty Mind) Dirty Mind (Dirty Mind) Crazy You (For You) I'm Yours (For You) I Hate U (TGE) Gold (TGE) Joy In Repitition (GB) Pope (The Hits) Erotic City (B-Side LGC) 17 Days (B-Side WDC) She's Always In My Hair (B-Side Raspberry Beret) Hello (B-Side Pop Life) Colonized Mind (LOtUSFLOW3R) Dreamer (LOtUSFLOW3R) Black Sweat (3121) Lolita (3121) Musicology (Musicology) Bambi (Prince) Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad? (Prince) U Got The Look (SOTT) Housequake (SOTT) The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker (SOTT) It (SOTT) Starfish & Coffee (SOTT) If I Was Your Girlfriend (SOTT) Let's Pretend We're Married (1999) Automatic (1999) Lady Cab Driver (1999) Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) (1999) Little Red Corvette (1999) The Beautiful Ones (Purple Rain) Computer Blue (Purple Rain) I Would Die 4 U (Purple Rain) Darling Nikki (Purple Rain) Thunder (D&P) Insatiable (D&P) Girls & Boys (Parade) Mountains (Parade) Anotherloverholenyohead (Parade) The Ride (Crystal Ball)

Many of those were never released, so how could they "chart" at all??? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Black Sweat should've been a hit.
It's not the best song he's done in the past 10 years, but it was the better of his radio singles.
Especially since Justin Timberlake came along later that year and had a huge hit album pretty much just ripping him off.
To me, Black Sweat sounded current and still like Vintage Prince. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I agree, although to be honest, that high-pitched synth squeal he used got annoying after a while.
My most recent let-downs are "Cinnamon Girl" and "Chocolate Box". Both were decent songs with cool videos. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

The problem was the boring ass video. It was sooooooo boring.
How the fuck does one work up a black sweat sipping coffee and making stinky faces. lawd, Prince.

I always wished Mountains and I Wish U Heaven had been more widely embraced, though I suppose they're not for everyone...

Well if I'd had my way, "Take Me With U" would have been #1 for 124 straight weeks.

From the actual singles that didn't chart well, I'd go with:
- Girls & Boys - Mountains - If I Was Your Girlfriend - I Wish U Heaven - Gold - Fury

Newer Prince music doesn't stand a chance because most folks link music from youtube to let people know what they're digging. Prince has kinda shot himself in the foot with that.
As far as older singles. Pop Life should have had a video and it would have been HUGE. Why Prince made Housequake a B side is beyond any known form of intelligence. That song and Adore were clearly winners.
Mountains was too hard to understand what he was saying for most folks. Now us Prince fans know but play it for a non Prince fan and watch the reaction

I remember being on a school field trip and someone on the bus had a radio, and they were playing Housequake. Everyone was JAMMIN' to it!

These weren't released as singles, therefore they were unable to chart.... [Edited 9/16/12 22:07pm]
