New topic PrintableI like it and I would buy an album that this song is included on. I don't need to do more than enjoy it. I'm just glad we have a new song that I have access to hearing.

Moonbeam said: I wonder if this is the first taste of a new album. The song is ok - not great, but not horrible either. I'd give it 3 stars for now. I'll spin it some more to see if my opinion changes. thanks for the warning !!!

Your computer speakers must have muted the synth part or something.

Heard it. Nice but kinda bland. I mean, won't draw much attention etc. Maybe live. A bit louder, faster, heavier? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Not feeling it. No surprise though. I just don't relate to Prince anymore on a lyrical level. There's just no edge anymore. Oh well glad he's still doing his thing. I'm still forever a fan.

Just say no to drugs. His studio work may not be anywhere near his Sick 80's period, but his skills are still beyond anyone who started in the late 70's and after.
I just want him to get a band with skilled musicians who actually go by his false claim of "Real Music By Real Musicians."
Dump the Dancers, dump the ridiculous crowd chanting female background singers, and just play full length songs for 2 hours each night with all the lyrics sung properly.
By the way, Shelby would be fine in a proper role. Her being a crowd flunkee is a damn waste of talent, and her shouting is BEYOND Self-Parody.
Of course, Prince won't do this....but I will defend his studio work. It's not perfect, but it's not the joke his live performances have been. Prince is still bringing it live in bits and pieces. It's just the cover songs and stage antics of some lesser talented and poorly utilized talent that drives me Bonkers.

We agree, OF COURSE, it's not a joke, but then yes of course what he released today is better than what most do on their best day. This is PRINCE we're talking about and I agree with you, but the lyrics to this mashup would be better to something NEW, rahther than bits of this and bits of that, that he recycled here.

the synth chords at the beginning sound just like Take Me With You. I agree that the song itself is not much like it, but the intro is very much like it. My Legacy

Nice to hear a new track, but in all honesty...at best I class it as a 'grower' after first listen. The song is typical of Prince holding back on a studio track, especially with guitar. Not feeling the delivery in vocals and the one aspect that resounds in my head after hearing it is the similarity to the "1999" synth line featured throughout.

It's a nice song. I probably like the lyrics more than many of his recent songs. I like that it's relaxed and feels fairly organic and smooth. I wouldn't mind a little chorus of some sort, but it's not totally necessary, either. In the tradition of a song like Reflection, Dorothy Parker, or Joy in Repetition (without quite being as interesting as the latter two) it's just words set to a musical groove, and there is nothing wrong with that.
however, Little Red Corvette it is not My Legacy

Revisting the past a tad too much, it almost seems like he said "I want to recreate Purple Rain atmosphere" Even the female background vocals of Andy Allo- That is his attempt for Wendy N Lisa.
In other words: I wouldn't jump on the couch like Tom Cruise & shout "You got to hear this!" This will get as much traction as "Hot Summer" But at least it has better melody than Hot Summer.

It's M.O.R at best - even if he was aiming to get back into the mainstream Pop realm again.
'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

What a difference a day makes? Just yesterday peeps wanted Prince to release new music instead of Andy. Now they got they wish with the surprise jam "RNR Affair" that he dekivered. What else is there to complain about? Who would have guessed Prince would be hiding this "MasterPiece" surprise in "The Vault".Let's leave the old jams alone in there & start with the new ones..... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I like it, especially the start. Would like more guitar on and real horns but it's still a good song.

It does remind me of "Take Me With U" and, well, "Hot Summer".
Not really impressed by it, but nothing that offending about it either. It's like a decent sandwich. Doesn't sound like something he'd include on an album release (in that sense comparable to all those tracks he put out before 20Ten, but a bit better, I suppose).

I just heard it....it's not terrible,it's just kinda bland and uneventful.

Somehow your comparisons make a lot of sense to me.
The synth parts and the way the guitar is used during the verses gives it a "Take Me With U" feel. It seems to be perfectly intentional too.

EXACTLY! For some people it would've been better if he would have stayed quiet and out of of the spotlight. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

yes, I know, but he did now, just right after her reality. I think Prince tends to answer this things with a song, as he did with "F.U.N.K.", "Pearls b4 the swine" and so many others. just guessing

New song sounds good. I'm diggin the acoustic guitar and the Prince 'lite' vibe of the song. What i like is the song seems fresh and retro at the same time. If the man plans on coming out with a new album and he brings the funk and rock like he's brought the mellow then it's gonna be good. I'm excited about a new album. What's wrong with you all?!? It's a GREAT song by a great artist!! It's way better than any of the Lady Gaga/Beiber shit on the radio & not all of Prince's songs on his albums can be 319's or Pink Cashmere's - so u gotta take each song as its own. If all his songs on an album sounded like that it would be awesome!! I still can't get over that some of u don't like it. U guys are whack!!! Peace in the House of Prince.

I'm listening again this morning. This is growing on me a lot. I think if it was PR'd enough, this would be a big big hit for Prince.
It's definitely a grower folks.
For those who think the production is weak, I have to completely disagree with you. I think it's the best produced sound we've heard from Prince in a long long time.

Really digging the story to the song! Love songs that carry a storyline! Remember the setlist from Oz that was posted here, & Prince had the lyrics from Grace by Jeff Buckley that he never sang? Well, the picture in my mind from the story of Grace, is kinda mirrored in this RnR Affair, no?
Trying to understand the part 'this kind of love don't come from a prayer'. I don't get it, seeing Prince is a very spiritual person. You'd think everything came from prayer. Unless he means he wasn't looking & praying for love, but it just happened anyway? As usual, SometimesIwonder thinks too deep about a Prince song! lol I need to just bop my head & enjoy it!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think it's to do with the fact that praying for a love would be a selfish prayer, which isn't the idea for a JW. RIP
