OK, so now I've listened to it about 5 times, and I love this track.
As I said above, the mix is incredibly open and fresh, while being very big at the same time.
I'd say it has perfect instrumentation, great chorus and verses, and spectacular vocals... very stripped down and bluesy.
LOVE the guitar parts, synth parts, and drumming. "He's a musician's musician..."

...and I'm just gonna go ahead and say that I think that's P on most (if not all) instruments... sounds like his drumming.

she wanted to see her name appear on the big screen he just wanted to hear her scream his name can you scream my name? do you know what i mean? this kind of love don't come from a prayer ain't talking rebound, born of despair two people in love with nothing but the road ahead they were bound to find each other he needed proof, she needed a brother Mayte put some things on the table trough that reality, so this could be a way for Prince to answer. I don't know, I just feel like it could be that, but it could be not.

I like the bluesy vocals, too. Reminds me a little of Springsteen.
For me the lyrics are a throwback to some of his great story-telling songs like Ballad of Dorothy Parker or Raspberry Beret. They take you on a journey.
If this is included in a cohesive album....I'd consider it a comeback for my preferences.

It's a good song. It's not the greatest song ever, but some of the people pissing all over it here are the same people that think a concert with Prince doing a great job on 8 songs, and then mumbling the lyrics to a few others with Shelby shouting "Put Your Hands Up," is some kind of wonderful concert. If I got $10 every single time I complain about Shelby's shouting, I'd have more money than I have.

JoeTyler said: so, you're back
you're either a moniker, or still the same grumpy livid bastard
and I haven't even heard this new song...
^If I were you, I wouldn't bother. I played this once and I'm sure I won't give it another chance for the rest of my life.
But, liking some of the albums you like, you might love it...

I am now referring to this song as "Take Me With U2(not the band.)"

This is one of the most pop accessible songs he's released in a while.
I like it. I can see it becoming infectitious... for fans at least. But it's not urgent for me. I don't want to put it on repeat, so that's a bummer.
I love whenever he does narrative songs, but I do think the lyrics could be upgraded just a bit.

Excellent point... Great story telling in that tradition. "He's a musician's musician..."

i feel like i'm never going to hear this song.

It's serviceable story-telling on this song. Not anything outstanding like Raspberry Beret or Dorothy Parker.

Honey, you could say those highlighted phrases about any of his protegees - or even his booty calls. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Ha! I should have guessed it was on Dr. F's site.
I like the song. It's fun. I don't even mind the synth horns.
Oh and thanks. [Edited 9/17/12 15:24pm]

that's another thing i like about prince, how his voice sounds different all of the time.
some artists just sound pretty much the same on all their songs but he has this thing he does where his voice sounds different almost every time. and it's not just effects, like autotune or such, just the tone and timbre of his voice and the delivery.
and i happen to like the voice he uses on this track a whole lot good vocals and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

S'nice.
If it got promoted properly (it won't), this could actually be a pretty big hit. Nice commercial sound and produced beautifully for a change.
I like it.
Not changing my world (shame), but I think it's a solid tune.

Its simply a “MasterPiece”!! Prince has surprised us again with a shocker 1 & 2 punch of a new future mega hit single along with a new look & mega interview all n one day…He is always full of surprises…
The song has a new fresh sound. That started with the platinum shipped 20T3N album. But a fresher sound With gr8 vocal arrangements & easy goin vibe to it. IT SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE TAKE ME WITH U! It has the laidback vibe of it. So sick of peeps comparing his other "MasterPieces" to this future classic top ten pop hit...
Princey u have made my day... can't stop playing it. Now let's get to Ally's new release then ur mega future release...
will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Hmm, a rip of the 1999 melody, another melody that sounds familiar. Bits and bits that are neat, I guess. A rather frothy track that will doesn't go very far.
I'd guess the artistic comeback aint this year. He should worry when Bob Dylan and Springsteen is whipping on him. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Yes, but you can't deny from the beginning of the song that it sounds a lot like 'Take Me With You' and the vocals have a similar sound to when he sang 'Fury' from the 3121 cd. It also has a tinge of 'Hot Summer' and like orger 2freaky said, a bit of '1999'. You can hear bits and pieces of some of his former songs in it.
I think if he ever plays this track live, it will sound different each time just like when the studio version of '3121' came out, vs when he played it live, it took on totally different sounds, when played live. I ended up liking the live version of that song once he played it live. About this new track 'RnR affair' it has a lot of similar flavors of some of his earlier songs, and it grows on you, because it's catchy. [Edited 9/17/12 15:57pm]

Sounds like Love Will Tear Us Apart, Again. Like it muchly, think it would go well with Lotusfl0wer. Cool lyrics. Cool vibe. Also reminds me in parts of Paul Simon's Graceland album. Thanks Prince!

Plz stop with the comparisons. I mean he did write the other classics. But this song is on its own. Let it dive in2 its own zone... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! Nah, I think this is more a semi-jazz-influenced joint in E.
But whatever, I love this song!
A million thumbs-up!

What is it with Prince songs? You have to hear them a few times before commenting. You have to live with the songs. I'm tapping my toes to it. It gets better as you listen. A good song--not great, but good.
This could be a hit. All you others say Hell Yea!!

it's only natural for people to pick a reference point when listening to 'new' music.
it comes to us all.
think of it like you not typing "it's a masterpiece" whenever your fingers reach for the keyboard.
it's impossible.
