Recent Prince tunes that blow you away!!! I've been trying to think of a Prince tune that has BLOWN me away in the last 5 or 10 years...People complain that radio still play old P songs, but not the new ones. The stuff he did back then was so new, fresh, raw, and original...Regretfully, I can't think of a tune that has done this for me in a very long time.
He is such a fantastic musician, that I overlook this, and find myself making excuses for him when amongst friends. I feel that I've been taken for a long ride with a guy who I used to worship, but now he ain't what I thought he was. Does this happen to you?? I took a listen back to my Prince catalogue tonight to see where I had gone wrong, and God's truth, I can't find one song of late, that has done for me like "When Doves Cry" did, or the other tunes he did at that time. There was a magic there that just isn't there anymore. What's wrong here??

Maybe it's the "magic" of youth. He got older. We got older.
I'm just the type who can be affected by the songs that aren't the hits as well. The ones buried in the albums. I've always been like this in regards to other artists. She Loves Me For Me is a beautiful song.

She Loves Me For Me is a beautiful song. I feel the same way...I'm not, or never have been affected by "hits"...I just haven't been BLOWN away in awhile like I used to be..."She love's me 4 me" is a very nice song, I agree. I just feel the energy of older tunes is not there like it used to be. I never suggested there wasn't great songs, but BLOW me away again Prince. That's what I'm talking about!! Like the days when there was NOTHING else out there like what P was doing. Those be the days I'm talking about. I still love him, and it's only my humble opinion...

in the last 5 or 10 years..? geez... if i were to names every prince song that blew me away in the last 10 years, we might be here for a while... if it were 5 years, we wouldn't be here quite as long, but that would still be a mighty hefty list...
he may not knock out the absolute killer tune as often as he used to, but when he does, it kicks complete and total ass... ... blow this edit away... [This message was edited Sat Mar 1 5:10:10 PST 2003 by EllisDee] Mr. Ellis Dee-licious, the Official NPGigolo

When I heard it on our local black station I was surprised they even bothered playing some Prince. But I respect your opinion. Yes, TGRES is a great song, still didn't BLOW me away, but at the time, there was nothing else out there like it, So that's a plus for that tune. Unfortunately, the video was nothing new...Completely self stroking and unoriginal. Too bad that when you get rich and famous, you start thinking you're a video director too...I will avoid that mistake when I get famous. lol I want rap to not disappear altogether but to take a back seat...in a long a** limo.

Tryin' to rack my brain here. Sure don't remember seeing it. Can you give me a synopsis on the shots? I guess with famous people it's an ego thing. For the most part they should go with that gut feeling, but other times they need to just shut the you know what up, humble themselves, admit they don't know, and allow someone with expertise in a given area to HELP THEM. It's knowing how to walk that razor edge, I guess. Balance??? Everybody is not the enemy!

I do REALLY like "I hate u"...very good song I wouldn't worry about it if i was u. Getting "blown away" is great and all, but like a long term relationship u can't stay in the newlywed phase forever. You're older, he's older times change. Alot of the excitement u felt back in the day was the newness of it all and you probably generated a lot of the thrill internally with that youthful energy. I'm past the point of expecting to be blown away by prince. I know him too well. That being said i still enjoy the hell out of 99% of what he does. He's given me so much pleasure that it's just icing now. And very tasty icing at that. Some of the nutcases on this site are like junkies forever trying to get the same high they got when they shot up for the first time. It's not going to happen no matter what prince produces. So they turn on him when half their trouble is really with their own perceptions.

Good point...I'm still buying the albums, but with TRC, I didn't put that CD on as much as I normally would with a new P album...I look forward to the next studio album...Most of the tunes off ONA didn't do alot for me though...That's just me, cuz I know many people still enjoy it. Point well taken though.

Comeback
Avalanche The Rainbow Children Welcome 2 The Dawn The Truth I Love You But I Dont Trust U Anymore The Holy River Of course he doesnt produce brilliance at the rate he did in the 80's, but every now and then he pulls one out of the bag that is every bit as good as the stuff he was producing at his peak. Prince will never lose it because he has talent, he may be less popular than he was back in the day, but having gone back to the basics with his last tour and album, he's proved that he will always make quality music. He'll still be doing this when hes 60+, how many pop artists around today can you honestly say you believe will be doing that.
