NurseV...no point in trying to like it. Either you do or you don't. I don't. So nay!

Oh Danny but I wanna like it

I do believe that there are some songs that have to grow on you but I always trust my gut. If it doesn't get me the first couple of times it ain't ever.

Nice description of the music I like the lyrics though-Imma listen a few times and then maybe my opinion will change

But...But it's Princey If it was anybody else I'd erase it from my hard drive

Nay. The kind of song that strikes you as fierce upon the first few listens but is really weak the more it sinks in. The kind of material that washed up disco queens of the '70s were doing by the mid '80s. Lot of attitude but nothing else to recommend it as a song in its own right.

Damn...It is lacking something, but to compare it to washed up disco queens is cold

Yay. And Prince can bring it to the African Methodist Episcopal Church around the block. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee!

Love this jam! "Well I got news for ya, freedom ain't free". Cool stuff. klick klick
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
But why do you WANT to like it? Because you like the lyrics? I don't know...I don't care too much for Prince in preachy mode. Like are we really supposed to "jam" to those type of depressing lyrics?

It's opposite for me. Musically, it's one of my favorites from the album, along with "Sticky Like Glue" and "Lavaux"; but I find the lyrics completely uninteresting, and at times, embarrassing.

Those lyrics suck. Just a bunch of conspiracy theory bumper sticker slogans strung together. Deep shit for morons but for people with half a brain the situation is infinitely more nuanced than he is capable of accepting. Again, being good at music doesn't necessarily mean you know shit about other things.
Prince has a lot in common with his hero Alex Jones. They both observe things that are actually happening but attribute them entities that are almost always imaginary.
Freedom isn't free? No shit, dumbass.
Try blaming human greed and stupidity before you start blaming some shadowy cabal of Jewish bankers and their chemtrails.
If I did something good, God made me do it. If I did something bad, Satan made me do it.
Wake up, folks. Take some credit for yourselves, both good and bad.
On a related note, I think the music is SUPER COOL.

polarizing song
it's either a 1/5 or a 5/5, depending on whom you ask

This. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I would say yay, I really like how all the instruments sound, specially the bass.

Yay!
This has become my favorite of the album. As for the lyrics, well, they are what they are these days. But it seems kinda personal, even though I don't quite understand it. Is this about respecting the hand of god, or about taking responsibility and not claiming everything to be the hand of god?

Big Yay. Has a talking heads vibe about it

P did not even bother to play this song live, the FIML-version doesn't count, so why would we? Yes, I do like the song, but why oh why... Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Oh BIG FAT yay...
I adore this song, and it's one of my favourites on '20ten'... I'd LOVE to hear an extended version of this.

Yay to the music and nay to the religious lyrics.

Major giant 100% YAY in my book.
Not a big fan of the lyrics but the music is phenomenal.

I'm wondering how so many of you have a problem with the lyrics.
All Prince is saying is that people falsely use God as a reason for greedy, devious, and violent acts.
Do you disagree with this?
Towards the end, he then calls them all out by saying, "...call it what you want it, (ex)cept an Act of God".
GREAT MESSAGE.
