On August 20, they took it down because of "a small issue with our hosting account." It went back online yesterday. Then, today, they posted this:

Sooooooo..........Prince's lawyers threatened us with legal action so we had to take the website down. Amazed the little shit has any fans left. Thanks to you all for your support. We may return but in the meantime, this Facebook page will be up and running. Just don't know how long for.

It says Eye records, it mentions all the sources, right? So is this not bootleg selling? It's like a fair trade that anyone could join and bloody trade.

The reason why it shut down is probably it was mentioned here all the time. What's the point? My guess is that those stupid lawyers don't even know why it is being discussed here, all they see is the site and the money.

Well unless they had intent to sell it, they would've done so. I guess it was just the promotion of it HERE and other Prince boards that still exist that got the lawyers on it. So no unless they intended to get money off it, I don't know if this was a fair shutdown...yet.

It's So shameful! I mean...If he is really concerned about his Image, and encouraging bootleggers...This is not the way to go.

These conversations on the org remind me of family gatherings where some particular relative with a history of problems did something stupid recently (for example, say an alcoholic relative got in a DWI accident). The person with the problems, if he or she isn't around, is going to be the main topic of conversation, and a lot of negativity is going to come out. But if that person happened to show up, of course we wouldn't make the same negative comments to his or her face.

So, some people believe that Prince's business practices and the shutting down of fan sites makes him not a nice person. Could be, could be not. But, I would like to make sure that we see the whole Prince not just the perceived negative side. To be fair to Prince-since he or his representative is not here to defend Prince, we need to try to see his perspective.

The fan site closing thing is probably lawyer controlled and Prince just lets them do what they feel is important. Prince is probably told that this fan site is (allegedly) promoting trade or actual trade of bootlegs which infringes on his copyright and trademarks and the law or lawyers tells Prince in order to keep them and not make them public domain you should do this or that (Now, that's just a guess.). My point is that most disagreements arise from not knowing all sides of the situation. I mean how many times were we all mad at our parents when they didn't let us do something when we were children? Now, that we are grown up and understand why our parents wisely said no to us, they weren't as mean as we thought.

I'm not saying Prince can't be difficult, one can only go to director Kevin Smith to see that. Anyone with such great success and used to getting HIS way is going to be difficult to work with. That goes for anybody successful in business etc. (see almost any CEO).

As for my personal interaction with Prince (although limited) he was very courteous, patient-something I didn't expect, and approachable. But, I wasn't attacking his position either.

Didn't folks turn in Prince for the Lotusflow3r business practices at the better business burea-I believe his rating there was poor (I think it was his home state.).I felt bad for the people who joined for 1 year and then the site shuts down in 1 month after joining (late members). I'm guessing the fine print says they can shut it down when they want?

You have some wise and thoughtful things to say... I agree, for the most part. Prince is, as well documented, a difficult and complicated individual... So, why are people constantly suprised at his actions... Even if you don't like the person you think he has become (which he has always been IMO), just value the music for what it was, is, and will always be.

Nothing's more courteous than suing that woman who posted a YT video of her kid dancing to "Lets Go Crazy". That was truly a class act.

Aside from ALL of this energy consuming headache, I'm still here for the music. I love Sly Stone and Miles Davis, both artists who went on record as being major "assholes", and he's no better. I totally understand where the OP is coming from, but if we worry too much about all of this, we'll rob ourselves of the enjoyment from the music, which is and should always BE the focal point, not about how cool Prince is to "hang out with".

But then again, thats how most of these sites get end up in the can; enjoying the music, comically enough

Well considering how most orgers swear by how crappy he was/is to Wendy & Lisa and how he's treated band members and associates how far of a leap is it that that was a slice of reality in the film? Did it make for interesting backstory in the film? Yeah. Doesn't make it complete fiction.
