I would like to take this chance to thank the guys (I actual believe it is one guy, but I could be wrong) behind this site for doing their very best to keep us up to date on tracking as many of those releases as possible.

Your link goes to:

"Once again, an artist that we once respected and admired is continuing with the persecution of his fans and has, once again, threatened legal action against the community. Despite the fact we were an information only site and did not play host to any illegal recordings or videos, we have had little choice but to adhere the warnings and shut the site down.

We have worked very hard over the past few years to make this site what it was today and we are saddened greatly by its closure. There is little point in us fighting the might of his lawyers and, to be honest, I’m amazed he has any fans left.

Thanks to everyone for the amazing and huge support you gave to us. Maybe you can find us again one day. Stay tuned with us via social media for updates and more.

You should change the thread title to "The Digital Garden Shut Down."

I hate to say it, but this does not bode well for prince.org. There were no actual bootlegs on that website, just pictures and discussion of them, which are currently allowed here.

So shall we push it a bit!!!

Shall we start subjects and discuss boots......only boots and only discussions.

Pictures of covers, tracklist and reviews of the boot in question.

A mini databank.org/ thedigitalgarden.org... a hand in Prince's face where we say we as a community has had enough of his bully techniques.

It's just hard to understand. He isn't releasing any material, new or old, under his name. He makes his money through concerts like the ones that have just been announced in Chicago. How does clamping down on fan discusison of his music help him fill seats at his shows?

Not surprising as the same thing happened with Uptown's bootlegs reviews and specials 15 years ago...

Not surprising but still very sad, particularly in a country where freedom of speech and the right to information should prevent Prince from shutting down... an information website.

I usually support Prince, his philosophy, his music old and recent, his projects, Andy Allo, etc. on this forum, but this is something I can't condone. It just plainly sucks.

And this website will be dearly missed. Thanks to its makers for the effort, though.

Yeah, maybe we should pass the information along at fan gatherings using a secret handshake. rolleyes

I was actually thinking of booking plane tickets to see him in Chicago, but when I saw this, it reminded me of why it's not worth the effort.

I was actualy thinking of booking a ticket to see him in Chicago, but when I saw this latest dick move, I'm saving up to see the Stones instead.

Another asshole remark. People know where to go for the info. Look at what happenes when things are done YOUR way. Nobody is saying its right or its wrong but its the reality of the situation. You want Prince off your back? Keep that shit low.

I don't care if he is "off my back" or not. I have nothing to do with that website. But Prince's petulant behavior does not make me want to travel to see him and spend money on his concerts. That's just a fact.

On another note, given your avatar, do you have any inside info on what dates the Stones will be playing the Barclays Center in November?

Really? I haven't seen him in concert since 1988 when I was 14. I bought tickets to the Dallas concert but that was in my town (and it was cancelled anyway). I do spend a lot of money on Prince records and CDs but most of them are out of print so that money is not going to him--not because I'm trying to protest something but because he has chosen not to make them available.

I'm not angry at the guy, I just find his PR strategy bizarre. I know that a lot of artists don't like their fans but most of them at least pretend that they do. You don't see Bob Dylan threatening to sue to shut down www.bobsboots.com, for example.

Fair enough.

But still ..why no live shows since Lovesexy?

Plus Im not saying it's right or wrong to have a website about bootlegs etc but Im saying that with the way Prince does things regarding them, the smart thing to do would be to keep it away from his and his handlers awareness as awareness is just going to bring trouble. You diont asgree with that?

[Edited 8/31/12 10:52am]

Okay, my life story in brief... From 1992 to 2004 I was in college and then graduate school, and had very little disposable income. I only went to two concerts that entire time (Elvis Costello and Parliament-Funkadelic). Then in 2005 I got a job in Dallas and moved there. I got more interested in Prince because (1) I had money to buy records and CDs for the first time in decades, and discovered whole eras that I had missed, and (2) the internet allowed me to hear some of his amazing unreleased material. So when a Prince concert was announced in Dallas, I bought tickets although it was incredibly expensive. Then it was cancelled. After the cancellation I was reluctant to fly to the shows in LA, Oakland, or NC, even though the plane ticket and hotel would have cost less than the Dallas show, both because I didn't want to waste time on a trip to see a cancelled show and because I was a bit irritated about the way the Dallas cancellation was handled (basically, we were not told the truth about the reasons for the cancellation).

I agree with you that the best way to share information about bootlegs without falling afoul of the Prince police is to do it as secretly as possible--perhaps with a secret handshake at fan gatherings as I somewhat sarcastically suggested earlier. My point is that I think this is a shortsighted PR strategy by Prince given that his main source of income seems to be concerts. If he is planning a major deluxe reissue campaign to make some money off these bootlegged songs, that's different. But I'll believe that when I see it. Anyway, it doesn't matter that much as Prince is only one artist that I like and this will make me feel less guilty about flying to see the Stones in NYC if that works out.
