Rock This Joint (SAB 075-076)

2 CD

Label : Sabotage Records

Catalogue : #SAB 075-076

Disc Length : 61:20 / 60:07

Source : Audience Recording

Sound Quality : EX

Year Of Release : 1999

Newpower Soul Music Festival Tour Aftershow Live Music Hall, Cologne 28th December 1998 (am)

Disc 1

1. Days Of Wild 2. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again) 3. You Can Sing It If You Try 4. Ole Smokey 5. Hair 6. Love And Happiness 7. Oye Como Va 8. The Question Of U

Disc 2

1. Groove On 2. Joy And Pain 3. Forever In My Life 4. Everyday People 5. Release Yourself (including Hypno Paradise) 6. The Jam 7. One Of Us

Although a lot of people write off Prince's from in the late 90's, this recording shows that even then he is the master. The opening track is 24 minutes long and the band is tight, the jamm just goes on and on but never gets tiresome.

Also Larry Graham is introduced but while having an input and giving the mic, he doesn't try to take over (which unfortunately is how he comes across in other shows I've heard)

The version of Question Of U is outstanding but overall it is the audience that makes this show ....picking up on cues and keeping the party going and clapping as an extra instrument to the band on stage.

What are your own thoughts on this recording??

and remember the site rules....we only talk about boots.

I was there, and it was a mindblowing experience. Much better than the main show at the arena a few hours earlier.

I too saw a main show and aftershow during this era (Wembley Arena and Hippodrome in London) and have the same feelings main show- forgettable aftershow- stellar

I was there, too.

The main show at the Köln Arena sucked, and the bootleg to it is probably one of the worst bootlegs I own, I only bought it because I went to that show and if I recall correctly the bootleg to the main show is incomplete but the aftershow was good. Not phenomenal but good and Prince really put his heart into this show.

He stopped the concert for a while to open the side doors to let some fresh air in because people were smoking weed and Candy told the audience to stop it or they would not play.

I like the intro that Morris played on the organ.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Killer boot. One of the fiercest versions of Days of Wild ever.

Plus, I love the humor in the title Rock This Joint for a show in which Prince repeatedly chastises the audience for smoking weed! Rich...

Unfortunately they didn't had tickets printed for this show, but I had my ticket from the main show with me at the aftershow. And Morris Hayes gave me an autograph on it after the show ended. A very nice guy!

I was there. Candy had to learn some German.

It was all good.

I remember having a 16mn version of DOW with Larry Graham, which was obviously longer cuz it was cut before the end of the track. It sounded like a soundboard but they say the audience recording is EX (is that even possible?) so IDK, could it be this show?
