Prince - "The Boom" Ummmm..... I just heard on a blog a song I've never heard: "The Boom" - it sounded like a came out as the same era as Gold/Exodus, and alot of sounds/music that were sampled in released songs came in here....
What is it?? Never heard of it!

It's a Poet 99 outtake. Prince sampled a lot of her stuff that he worked on with her in the mid-90s

I don't think we ever really knew the backstory of this collaboration, why it failed to be finished while Prince was obviously in love with Ninety-9's rap and lyrics.
It also seems that she never ever did anything else, as I could never find a trace of her or her music online (now I'll admit that I didn't search too hard, but nothing obviopus pops-up on Google). There's a single on Discogs, though, but not sure if it's the same gal: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Ninety-9
The outtakes make a nice, demo-like but nice nonetheless, EP.
I hope we learn more about it someday. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I hope we learn more about it someday. She had a single out in the late 90's called Willow. It's a nice track. Jo Whiley championed it in the Uk on radio 1 & interviewed her. It got a bit of airplay. There was at least 1 other different song on the CD single and (I think) a remix. I have the single somewhere in a pile of boxes. blah blah blah

It's the one from Discogs linked above, interesting to have confirmation it's her indeed. I'll have to put my hands on this someday A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

It's quite nice, from what I remember. Sort of lazy, laid back chorus about a willow tree.
Edit. Just checked, and the track's available to listen to on Spotify if you use it. [Edited 8/23/12 6:01am] blah blah blah
