with the way radio started to become so fragmented in the '80s, and has only gotten worse as time goes on, I think that all of his singles should have been double A-sides, since he appealed to two opposing radi formats, especially in the '90s. a rock/pop single and an r&b/soul single. he and WB were sort of doing this to some extent in the early '90s before everything went south between them, but it should have been a tactic employed from the get-go.

The poorest choice of all was not even picking a single for Around The World In A Day. He just sent that album to the radio stations and expected them to play whatever the hell they wanted.

^ Yep, that's it.

Raspberry Beret could have been an even bigger hit.

They're so dead. Like I've said a million times, if you're working up a black sweat, then bitch...do something!

Prince is not a sit--stand still---sit live performer....I just don't get why his videos are that way. So damned boring.

But even his worse albums are more intersting than that Katy Perry nonsense, so much of it is public interest and promotion.

But he's acting cool. I think this is the whole notion of that behaviour, when he's sitting and posing etc...it's his style of voguing pimp Prince style. I'd have thought you knew that already. He once said he doesn't wanna dance in videos, cause he thinks the idea of them are shit to begin with. Can't remember which song now.

I get the point.

What I'm saying is that it's boring as hell.

If Prince thinks the idea of them are shit, he's perfecting the art of portraying that in his videos these days.

Prince is the only artist whose B-sides was just as popular or more popular than the actual single. So with that said he accomplished releasing more singles than the average artist...

yeahthat Can't tell you how much I've heard Rain or I Am The Walrus. Prince never even came close to The Beatles as far as popular songs go. Hell, I heard A Day In The Life on the radio today. Blackbird, LSD, and Here Comes The Sun are just some of the many signature tunes that weren't even released as singles

I'll never understand why he didn't release "Adore" as a single...The radio stations played it on heavy rotation so much , that I thought it was...

"Adore" was too long 4 a single. Even though he could have sent a radio edit of it..But the point that they played it anyway says a lot...

Back then, stations could still play his extended versions... They played all of adore every time....

Corporate didn't force songs to be under 4 minutes yet....lol

Ask any random person if they've heard Erotic City or Adore. Ask those same people if they've heard Here Comes The Sun or LSD. Glee even covered Blackbird. The Prince song performed was Kiss.

If I Was Your Girlfriend was the worst. Love the song...but def an album track if there ever was one. Betcha By Golly Wow was the 2nd worst. Weak remake.

Both albums had SUCH radio friendly tunes...Play in the Sunshine, Housequake, Adore, Strange Relationship for Sign...Sleep Around, In This Bed I Scream, Sex In The Summer, The Love We Make, White Mansion for Emancipation. Both would've had much longer legs if any of these were released to radio.

Too true. cool

Duran Duran also had awesom B-Sides in the 80's.

And more recently, Oasis and the Foo Fighters had GREAT B-sides.

Glam Slam as the follow up single to Alphabet St. killed the momentum of Lovesexy.

Although 3 things, really, killed the momentum. The Glam Slam single, the controversy with the album cover, and Prince not touring the Lovesexy album in the U.S. when the album first came out, choosing to tour overseas first instead.

Why? Lovesexy was big in Europe...it was a good move to go to Europe.

I'm glad he released IIWYG, because it was the reason I truly fall in love with his music.

But yeah, it wasn't the smartest move commercially wise.

There were a few songs that I think could have been hits. I agree that his choice of constantly releasing ballads is not great. People know Prince as an upbeat artist.

Now--more contemporary than I Hate U and more friendly than P Control. More MTV than Dolphin. A good video would have been helpful.

The 1 U Wanna C--hooky as all getout. A good video might have helped.

Baby Knows--A good video might have helped

The Word--a good video...

Only in Japan. Yet it's got 35 million views oin youtube. I think that says a lot about The Beatles.

BTW I just learned While My Guitar Gently Weeps wasn't a single either

SoulAlive

the single choices for Rave made no sense at all.The singles should have been...

So Far,So Pleased---I think most of us would agree that this was the 'obvious hit single' on the album....the song that has 'Top 10' written all over it.

Baby Knows---commercially,this might have become another "U Got The Look".

Wherever U Go,Whatever U Do---another commercial track that would have done well

"The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" is a decent song, but not single-worthy,imo.It's too similiar to "TMBGITW" and compared to the songs I listed above,it's actually kinda dull.
