How much formal music training did Prince have in the early years?

I've read in several places that he learned saxophone in high school or junior high, and I believe he took a music class with Terry Lewis (but that may have been a business or music theory class). I think I also read he took voice lessions along with the dance & drama instruction leading up to Purple Rain...

Anyone have know any more about his musicianship development?

I think Prince is one of those rare cases, where the heavens opened up and bestowed upon him a natural gift, where it takes years of pratice and training for other musicians to achieve such ability.

I'm pretty certain he's been taking vocal lessons pretty much his entire career.
