Lets go crazy - long version

I hear people always talking about the Computer Blue long version, but does anyone know about a lets go crazy long version? i mean its right there in the purple rain film. He would have to have recorded it properly so they could mime along to it when filming.

Also, i noticed they do the 'bad piano playing' thing in 'Take me with you' (from the 1985 live homevideo) exactly the same as they do in Lets go crazy.

Yes...there is an officially released version titled "Let's Go Crazy (dance mix)," and it's the version you hear at the beginning of the movie Purple Rain.

The 12" version exists. The other side contains the 12" version of "Erotic City." The guitar riff for V6's "Drive Me Wild" is included in the middle of this version of LGC.

Also, i noticed they do the 'bad piano playing' thing in 'Take me with you' (from the 1985 live homevideo) exactly the same as they do in Lets go crazy.

Bad piano playing? confuse Maybe you mean the staccato piano part in the 12" version of LGC.

The long version of Let's Go Crazy
is the full length unedited version.
It was included on an early version
of Purple Rain.

It was officially released on the
12" of Let's Go Crazy in '84 to
coincide with the film.

The version in the film is the longest I know and was officially released as a 12 inch single. There is also an imported (German I think) CD of it. Either should be easy enough 2 find.

Yeah...it's kind of funny when you start to think that the album version is the edit and the "dance mix" is more like the full song.

This is usually the case with Prince songs, especially around that era.

i think you'll find a lot of Prince songs have longer versions that what you're used to. So many songs off of the Hits were edited, compared to when i bought the albums later.

There must be a version of Kiss that we havent heard. The album version has no end and the single version fades out.

True. But I think I bought the I Would Die 4 U 12" before I bought the Let's Go Crazy 12", and I was young and was shocked at how different the IWD4U 12" was (basically a re-recording) and how LGC was just the full version of what was on the album!

Then, you can look at Raspberry Beret 12" and figure that it could have gone either way -- the 12" was edited for the album version or the album version was extended at the beginning and end to make the 12".

its so annoying that theres different version of each song. As if it wasnt hard enough to try to get every prince song ever done, you have to take into account the 12" versions.

There should be 1 remastered cd with ever song he's ever done on it in chronological order and its given away to anyone who wants it.

Im gonna start a petition to Warner, who's with me?

(I say warner because lets face it, i dont want most of his stuff from the 90s even in my house)

The 12" version of 'I Would Die 4 U' was indeed a re-recording.
It was cut from a rehearsal with The Revolution just before the Purple Rain tour started and both Sheila E and Eric Leeds feature quite prominenly. The 12" version is actually an edit of a 30:50 minute session of that track.

Yeah, I Would Die For You is a recording of a rehearsal version of the song for the Purple Rain tour.

Raspberry Beret is a 'remix' which uses parts not used in the album version to artificially extended the song.

The UK 12" of Pop Life is the full length unedited version.
The US 12" of Pop Life is a remix based on the full length version.
America is the full length version (and it still fades out after 20 mins!)
Kiss 12" is the full length version.
Mountains is basically the full length version with additional overdubs and a slightly different mix.

The 'I Would Die 4 U' rehearsal session is definitely available, but it fades out after 30:50 minutes.

Most of the songs on Purple Rain were originally a bit
longer than the versions that finally appeared on the
finished album (with the exception of When Doves Cry).

Take Me With U 4:55
The Beautiful Ones 6:00
Computer Blue 11:34
Darling Nikki 4:45
I Would Die 4 U 3:18
Baby I'm A Star 4:52
Purple Rain 13:19

it´s not bad piano playing.it´s awsome
& I think it´s the end of Delirious that
sounds like the 12" Let´s go crazy part on the
live concert.

There are plenty of boots with perfect sounding versions of all the 12 inch cuts. I would highly recommend you track one down.
For the record it takes 4 or 5 cd's to fit all the extended versions of the material through the advent of the five inch single.
