Black Sweat - 3:30 version?

Hey everyone,

Have been looking around on discogs for some wax, and i came across a couple of 12" singles of Black Sweat that say that the runtime is 3:30. The album version is 3:11, so i was wondering if any of you own this and could confirm the length on the single release? Its an absolute killer jam so it would be interesting to hear an extra 20 secs if its for real....

Here are the links to the items im talking about:

PEACE x

It seems that whoever posted the info on discogs is wrong.

Here is more accurate and trustworthy info on track lengths. http://www.princevault.co...lack_Sweat

Yeah, it's a strange one. The only thing I can think of is that it's an error, because if a longer version existed it would be listed @ the princevault site.

i hope someone can clear this up, otherwise i can very easily see myself picking up a copy to make sure.....(although not one of the red ones as the go for £60+ !)

Black sweat was edited of around 15 secs before the release and the inclusion on the album, as proved by the lyrics from the booklet of the Black Sweat single, where you can see a few lines more, not on the released version. Maybe Prince thought the last secs were not worth it...

the xtra lyrics are "work little sister, work, work little brother work, I don't want 2 do nothing crazy, but I do. I'm working, working up a black sweat"

Since no one seems to be able to give a concrete answer, my guess is that the few extra seconds are made up of fade out. And lets face it, it's unlikely that anything amazing is going to happen in the last 19 seconds of a track.

Unless anyone can tell us different?

This from the track notes of "30 Years Of Unreleased Funk Vol 1.."

"Ice Cube Black Sweat Remix (Only played once at the LA 3121 party first night 2006) 7:39 This was only played ONCE at the 3121 Winners Party in LA 2006. Later the Acetate disappeared and this is the first time the track appears in public."

My guess is that this remix track was not officially commissioned as there is no real info on it anywhere.

is it just that the label says it's 3:30? or have you listened to it to confirm that it's an extra 19 seconds longer?

As you can see, it's actually on the label. Btw sorry guys, didn't realize a lot of you were wondering about this track. So i actually timed it, and the song itself is only 3 minutes, making it even shorter than the album version. So unfortunately no extra lyrics, synths, or sweat sad

What a scam! Can these labels press vinyl with fake lenght? That's rubbish!

It shows Prince's sense of humor really well...By the way the live version of this song is a "MasterPiece". Its the hit song that never was. If Pharrell from The Neptunes recorded it . I betchu it would have went number #!

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
