These what if's and buts are ridiculous though. You could do this for just about anything. Don't ever drive a car because you could have an accident. Even if it wasn't your fault! And say because of that accident you didn't buy your little cousin a teddy bear for Christmas, she would never 'need' it to sleep every night :O
Again, no disrespect. It's just over the top.

Do what my buddy Nigel Tufnel and I do - buy amps that go to 11.
They're one louder and that makes all the difference.

In the USA-influenced world the music isn't from you, even though you paid for the CD. So no, you cannot do that to music you merely licensed from the wrecka company. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yes you can. It's called 'Fair Use'. The record companies may try to say you can't, but, the law says you can.

Are you very sure that the scope for 'fairt use' is that wide in your jurisdiction? It's not just quoting certain parts for research or commentary, mockery, satire or whatever. I am not for this **AA stuff but you get the idea what I am worrying about. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

For personal use? Yeah, I'm sure. They could still sue but it would probably be thrown out of court. Now, if you're sharing it, it might depend on how and with who. In other words, if I tweak a recording I buy for my personal use, and then make copies for a limited number of friends or family, no commerce involved, I'm safe. If I upload to a file sharing site making it available for an unlimited number of people, they might have a case. If I sell even one copy, they got me.
One thing to understand. Media companies like to claim that ANY and ALL such acts are illegal even when it is only their licensing agreement that is broken, not the law. If they had their way, it would be illegal to record a tv show and watch it later, skipping commercials. If they had their way, it would be illegal to rip our own CDs & LPs to our iPods. They would love us to be forced to buy a digital copy instead. Luckily, it hasn't gotten that bad yet.

So let me try to bring this thread back on track... To answer the original post...
I have used audacity to do the following:
For shits and giggles, I lowered the pitch on the camille tracks to listen to Prince sing in his normal voice. (Some songs are cool, others work as camlle much better).
I took the telephone conversation part of Bob George and slowed it down to hear what it was saying
I edited both remixes of Pop Life, taking the "Friar John" part of Wendy and Lisa --- the "La la la" part -- and edited that into the slower tempo'd extended version. SOunds neat, actually. I still want to speed up the extended version to match the dance version...that would be excellent.
I've extended Baby I'm A Star to match up the way it did in PUrple Rain, again...just for shits and giggles.
Next I want to take the extended version of Paisly Park and incorporate it into the album version to make a hybrid/complete version with a proper ending like the album.
That's about it for now. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

Oh yeah, forgot about that one.
I played that record, double-speed,...though in the end I didn't really feel much of a climax fit for a kiiiiiiing. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

Take it the other way too, Bob George, the intro to 1999, God's part in Temptation...

I have a Prince iTunes playlist that I occasionally use for a certain purpose in the bedroom. The volume inconsistency with different eras did cause a problem because my wife kept telling me to turn it down when it would switch from an 80s song to a 90s song. However, I recently ripped the 2009 Japanese reissues of the first ten albums to my computer and replaced the original versions with those. Since the 2009 pressings are louder, it's no longer a problem. I don't think it's worth buying the 2009 reissues just to match volume levels on iTunes, but since I already had them, it worked for me. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I remember back in the day making cassette compilations, slowing down and stopping 'New Position' on vinyl right before 'I wonder u' kicked in. If i had a couple of minutes spare at the end of a cassette i'd stick that on or 'Venus De Milo' just so i used up ALL that 90minute cassette.
It was an intricate art, lots more fun than makiing a playlist on an Ipod.
