Cassette/LP (slightly longer) version of Joy In Repetition Hi y'all,
I'm not asking where to find it, I just want to know if someone has had the bright idea of ripping the cassette (and possibly LP?) version of JIR (which contains a short fade at the end that's not on the CD version) into a digital file, and if it's circulating online, and on which collection of rare/unreleased tracks if any, or if this version is lost forever (so far).
It would have been great on a Fun With Vinyl comp A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

There's also a track on the Prince lp that is a different length than the CD. Don't remember which track, but, iirc, Fun With Vinyl included it in their set... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

This is one of the biggest mysteries of Prince's career: how did a single edit end-up replacing an album version on the Cd reissue of said album? Was it Prince's decision? Did someone at WB trip? Why on earth was the decision made anyway? Very odd.
Thankfully this one has been circulating but nothing for JIR? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Its criminal what they did to the tracking on the Cd version of GB. JIR needed a bit of breathing space (which u get on the lp & tape cos its the end of side A). I had the tape version for many years until I bought the CD and was well duffed off that Love Machine was slap-assed on the end ..sharmone MF..!

i'd love a stand alone version of this, was it ever a promo? shame that love machine just cuts in at the end.

I'm guessing this faded version is the one that's ised on the Pimpsandwich version of Crystal Ball. If so, I prefer the CD version. That fade out always seems "off".

From what I can remember, the version Databank is on about fades out AFTER what we hear on the CD version. I think the Pimpsandich one fades during the last line of the song. I think. blah blah blah

As I told you once by email, the version of "Joy In Repetition" on the LP used for "Graffiti Bridge: Homemade Deluxe Edition" (US vinyl pressing) is the same version as on the CD.
Does anybody know if there's any LP version of "Graffiti Bridge" (non-US, promo, etc.) that has the slightly longer version of "Joy In Repetition"?
If not, that would mean that only the cassette version of "Graffiti Bridge" has the longer version. That would be weird...

iirc, this IS the case, and if so, you're right, "weird"!! Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

My copy of the LP has the longer version.

Man...Never knew this. Now I have to dig up my old cassette version of GB...Interesting...

Where did you buy it (US, Europe, etc.)?

Is that the one that just starts off with the drums? It's been a while but I'm sure I have it.

It's the Canadian version.

Mmmh. So the US LP has the "short" version and the Canadian LP has the "long" version... That doesn't make any sense.

what's longer about it? exactly, I mean.

Are you certain the US LP doesn't? You do realize we're talking about maybe 1 second of extra organ at the end, rather than the immediate cut into "Love Machine"?

See above. | |

Well, I'm not 100% sure. I did download "Graffiti Bridge: Homemade Deluxe Edition" (which was basically the US vinyl + bonus tracks, IIRC), when it was released, just to check if "Joy In Repetition" was longer, but I deleted it. I didn't expect more than the extra second of music at the end you're talking about.
