The last 5 minutes of South off of N.E.W.S. got me a couple of times. I really love the end of that song. It's such an emotional breakdown between Prince's guitar solo and Eric's ever so powerful sax. Then the very end with piano and snyth lines and string arrangements. Simply Beautiful and pure. When I first heard this I kinda thought this might be the last Prince and Eric collaboration which left me a bit melancholy but it's a great end to a great musical collaboration, so the end of that song is quite fitting almost 10 years later. I dont really care what people have to say about N.E.W.S, but I feel it was one of his strongest works of the 2000 period. That album is really a musicology in styles. Dynamic, bold, daring and Adventurous. Also "Objects in the Mirror" also works when pondering your end of love in a relationship. The call back to "Have a Heart" in that song is also a beautiful touch and thought provoking of the situation thats being described. I find the "One Nite Alone" album full of reflection of loves past and the possibilty of future love. An excellent album again. Big Chick "Security Ensuring thee" [Edited 8/16/12 1:11am]

WOW!! So glad you could mention that! NOW I know, I am NOT the only one in the camp that has been emotionally effected by 'West'. (You, me and Nursev, are the only ones..it seems) The last 5 minutes of that song, has made me cry a couple of times. JUST one of the best guitar solos by Prince! So emotional, it makes the sound as the guitar is seriously crying...When I was going through a tough time personally, hearing the last bits..I remember crying...The same for 'North'. SIMPLY beautiful! I agree also on your description of 'N.E.W.S'!
But not to go off topic!
Songs that have made me harvest some tears are:
I Wish U Heaven (Officially the first song, I remember from any artist that has made me cry..I was going through a tough time in my relationship..AND I don't know what it was about that song but it made me cry a lot at the time..lol. Now it just makes me happy and makes me smile)
Power Fantastic (One of those songs that made me cry myself to sleep...lol..My reasons have merit, and there are so many reasons as to why I can't listen to this song that often..It's truly beautiful and makes the tears run!)
Purple Rain (Milan 2010...HAD Me going...AND just recently the one he performed a year earlier in Montreux! The beginning of the guitar solo just too sweet! AND the guitar solo on the song, has so much emotion..it broke me. Because I thought about loosing my grandmother in the time of her illness, and it just broke me down..I don't know how that really happen, I guess..I really thought about the lyrics and meaning...The tears came natural as such a sad thought arrived and existed in my heart. I really don't want to imagine the day, my grandmother is gone..I won't ever be the same...
The Last December (Another one that gets me sad, VERY sad for some reason..it made me cry a couple of occasions..)
Old Friends 4 Sale (When he says; "When I'm dead..." I just feel that!
The Grand Progression (This just sounds like the language of tears for me on a sad day...lol)
She Gave Her Angels (As Someone said, the guitar solo is crying! Very emotional guitar solo!
Tangerine Extended Version (The guitar solo is crying here as well! SO beautiful though..)
Into The Light/ I Will (Around this time last year, I discovered two of the best songs in Prince's catalog and it is these! It's essentially one song! I can't listen to them now..because I know..even as I haven't listened to a Prince song that has made me cry in a while...THESE SONGS WOULD DO THE TRICK! lol
God Is Alive (That guitar solo...I feel it..but my tears are more joyful here!!
So many songs, but these are ones that come to mind now!
Happy crying! Crying is good for you, until you cry, you'll never know why...lol It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Aristotle,
Nice to meet you and thanks!
I think with the new suggestions since the first 2-cd tracklist I arranged on page 1, there is now enough for a 3 disc set of songs. However, I am busy, working.
Is anyone up for the challenge of arranging a 3 disc set? It doesn't have to follow my original 2-disc one and it would be useful to see other ways of arranging, as I can already see some flaws in mine.

P.S. ufoclub, yes, absolutely...I love Avalanche, it is very emotional.

Here's a couple songs that make me feel something (and cry): Have A Heart, Purple Rain (The live version The Revolution did on the My Purple Heart boot just did something for me, it felt really emotional and Wendy did a great job with the vocals) Sometimes it Snows In April, Under The Cherry Moon, Strange Relationship (the Dream Factory version), One Of Us, Comeback, Had U, Eye Hate U, Mountains (makes me so happy I cry) I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymor... Just to name a few. Purple is the color of my heart,

I must be one hard-arsed girl, coz I have never cried or felt like crying in any Prince music. I am definitely moved by the joyful or sad beauty in some of them and they can cause me to be introspective and reflective but I haven't cried (yet.)
However, when I first got a mass of new Prince cds in 2009, I put all the 'soft' sounding music on one playlist, and as it was new, listened to it consistently and solidly for a week while I was travelling a lot for work. At the end of the week, I was almost depressed. So the music and the way I'd picked it must have been too much of troubled or sad Prince and the music can definitely effect you, although it was unconcious at first. When I rearranged my playlist and mixed it with other Prince songs it was fine again.
If, though, Prince has to leave the planet before I do, there will be numerous songs that I would be unable to listen to for a while. Listening to such beauty and knowing the author/artist is no longer there, will definitely break me. I guess I should allow 'one of my tears' in case I'm hit later by a tidal wave.

I interpret crying pretty loosely. There do not need to be actual tears. I cry about every five years. Just a little misting around the lids. [Edited 8/17/12 13:00pm] Philmoreliz

Well, sometimes, a song can make you feel good and happy, another time, the same song can make you fall into a deep negative mood, or vice versa, your mood makes you cry when you listen to the same song..
I've cried listenning to:
Purple Rain often when I've seen Prince performing it live!! I was tremendously moved Gold Dolphin Goodbye , because of Prince's 1st baby born The love we make Last December ...

I Hate U - the theme and the build up to that guitar solo in the end describes the worst pain I ever felt. It's also my favourite song.
Purple Rain - nothing to add here, it's just extremely sincere and a one-off moment in the history of Rock'n'roll.
Sometimes It Snows In April - evokes the question: "what would happen if I died tomorrow? Who would care and who would cry for me?"
Shhh - probably because I heard that song 10 years after I first heard it as a child and the emotional guitar interludes just hit me hard.
Last December - the lyrics and the delivery of the first verses are very touching.
Crimson And Clover - sounds extremely sincere and so hopeful it made me cry the first time I heard it.

None of them. Music usually only makes me cry if something in my life is currently making me sad, which is a rare occurrence.
However, I did get a bit throat-lumpy when I first heard "Comeback." He'd mentioned the song in an interview with Spike Lee before it came out, so I knew what it was about before I heard it. And upon first listen, when the line, "That sweet wind was you," was sung the eyes became a little misty.
It's interesting to read the posts on this thread and to see what elements of certain songs connect to people's emotions. It makes you take a deeper look at the songs, which is cool.

Oh I can't believe no one mentioned GOD so far! I really appreciate how he just let it all happen in this one. So many different emotions going on...he sounds vulnerable, overwhelmed, grateful, ecstatic and even scared, all at the same time. And the fact that he was able to touch people like me - who doesn't even believe in religion - with a song titled "god", definitely says something.
Oh and listening to How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore can really make u bawl. I mean I bet everyone's been dumped at least once in their lifetime, and this one brings back those memories. [Edited 8/21/12 0:53am]
