1-900-PRN-1999

Remember? I certainly remember the $200 phone bill! I think I got a lot of information and heard many songs for the first time (parts of them, at least, and in not-very-good quality) on that line. I was probably 12 or so. Anybody else have any specific memories associated with that #?

I'm just saying...

Did you get in trouble for that bill? I remember a friend three way calling the number with me on the line to hear that stuff. I heard some of "What's My Name?"

Didn't the folks from Uptown run that 900 number? There was a later one run by Paisley Park, but it didn't last long and I don't remember the number either.

$200? That's not much! I remember the boss trying to blame me for dialing up the phone sex numbers and running up the bill to $2000+. I was 16. Come to find out his son was going to work and making calls. Plus, BBC was never my thing! Not difficult for those Einsteins to figure out the long hair in the Metallica shirt wasn't doing that..

1800-new-funk would play new Prince music when you were on hold btw. I called it a few years back and it wanted a password, almost sounding like some PP voice mail sys.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

What about Nathan Wright's PUMP Purple Underground phone line?? One of Nathan's MANY failed Prince ventures. Any old schoolers remember this character?

I will Pay GOOD money to anyone who can locate a casette of the promo cassette Nathan sent out by one Eye Neely with two songs promoting this phone line. Two of the corniest Prince imitation songs you'll ever hear.

"Pump the sound... from the underground. We never intended to paint your purple town brown. The only thing we wanna do is pump the sound." etc. Absolutely AWFUL, so awful I must hear them again.

 I remember Nathan and the PUMP line. I totally remember going to my best friend's house to call it, as my mom would've killed me if I called from home. His parents werent happy either.

He had some pretty good scoops on there! I remember he had a bunch of song titles for the Symbol album before it came out. I remember writing them all down and fantasizing about what they sounded like. A few of them were..."Pocket Rocket," "Do U Wanna Rock," "F.U." and "I Pledge Allegiance 2 Your Love."

I remember hearing "Schoolyard" and "What's My Name" as well.

I talked to Nathan a couple of times on the phone. He seemed pretty nice. I think he sold me a copy of Dirty Mind outtakes.

I can't remember what songs I heard there, pretty sure they were 1987-1990 or so outtakes or unreleased songs. I think maybe I heard "Wonderful Ass" on that line?

Interesting to hear. Only 2 of those titles show up on Princevault.

Do u Wanna Rock - NPG track http://princevault.com/in...na_Rock%3F

And I'm presuming the other one is Allegiance.

from what I remember at the time about their customer service and product availability, calling 1-800-NEW-FUNK was usually a waste of time in 1994-1997 when it was active lol

Oh, I remember Nathan J. Wright. Somewhere, I have that bad cassette. Moreso, I remember a phone call from a law firm representing Prince asking me to cease and desist from purchasing anything from Nathan Wright or calling that phone number!

I had the cassette but lost it, along with my entire 30+ year music collection, in a house fire a few years ago. For some reason, I want this cassette more than many things I lost. It is that bad.

Nathan ripped me off a time or two with "fanzines" that he never fulfilled subscriptions to. A bad businessman all the way around. And used to get real defensive when you criticized him in any way.
