Manchester UK, Nude Tour 1990

Posted this in the wrong thread earlier. I thought this was easily the worst Prince performance I have ever seen. Just a coupla days after GB was released and we got 80 minutes. And then. just a year later P pulls out of the Blenhiem Palace show (pick your reason, enough went around). But the rehearsal tapes for that show reveal that we would have got a unique set, full of GB stuff. If you ask me, (and I assume you won't) it was because Guns N' Roses were playing Wembley Stadium the same day and the man got scared. A bad year for UK P fams.

Apoligies for the rambling nature of this..

A bad gig nod .I might have my dates mixed up, but it was due to be on the 2nd August, but was postponed on THE DAY of the concert until 21st because he had to go back and re-film some of Graffiti Bridge.
There R LOTS of reasons, like u say, about Blenheim Palace-TOTAL disaster!!!
I think the Guns N Roses thing isn't true tho.Prince had just sold out 7 straight nights in Wembley Arena, then 2 in Birmingham (plus Manchester)-I don't think at that point he was scared of ANYONE!!

I went to the Birmingham show on the same tour. It was appalling! Prince played for 67 minutes! and that was counting the gap between show an encore. I remember people walking out after in disbelief. Was he ill or something because there could be no other reason for such a poor show.

Strange, coz I was at most of the London gigs and I don't remember them being either short or disappointing!
...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I have a vinyl of one of the london gigs (11th July) and whilst its little longer than 80 mins, there's some good stuff on there. His medley of Do Me Baby, Aint No Way (Rosie) and Nothing Compares 2 U is absolutely brilliant, the best Ive heard him do...possibly ever.

Purple Rain (with Electric man/ live 4 love) is also amazing, great vocal / guitar performance.

Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of fun to be had on the Nude Tour, but, they felt kinda 'phoned-in'. PLUS what was with the lighting on that tour!? You could barely see the stage. A belated positive about the Manchester 'Nude' show, ... a rare, post-Lovesexy 'Blues In c', almost made up for the piss-taking length of the gig.

p.s., the rehearsal tapes for the cancelled Blenheim gig are un-fucking-believeable; Elephants And Flowers seemed to be planned to open the gig,...I mean...JESUS!

I was there at Maine Road. It was AWFUL.

I couldn't see anything, the sound was shite and it was full of non-fans.

I think the opening act was Lois Lane. I can't even remember. It was DIRE.

YES Lois Lane, I remeber it ALL now, a BAD day. Apparently Prince remembered this gig when he returned for Diamonds Ans Pearls, where he played one of the best shows of the tour (and I went to a LOT). Guess he wanted to make it up. But I hear what you are saying about the amount of 'non-fans' at the show, it was the worst case of "Why are you here!!!??" I have ever had at a gig. but as I said, the next Maine Road concert MORE than made up for it..(despite the Pasedenas, Jeez what is it about Prince Manchester gigs and BAD support acts!?)
