What got U into Prince ?

Back in 89 I was only 9 yrs old when the video batdance came out , I was awstruck . what caught my eye was the style , somthing I had always been looking 4 but didnt know what it was . Well anyways I saw it several times on TV & heard it on my walkman radio while riding my bike . Not heres the dumb thing , the few times I watched it or saw it , I didnt really look to who the name was !! . Probabley the last few times I saw it back then I think I caught a glimps of his name , & so 4 several yrs I kept asking some freinds who Prince was . Everybody thought I was talking about the fresh prince of balair , even a few music stores didnt know what I was talking about . Enter 1993 & the 7 video . Then my world was 4ever changed . Thank U Prince 4 the best video in the history of man kind ... Well go figure the rest was history & I have been a fam ever since . In my opinion the 7 video was the embodyment of music . Does Prince ever do that song at concerts anymore ?

"Soft and Wet" when I was eight. I had no idea what he was talking about but the sound was so new in the eighties. I didn't fall for his looks until the "Little Red Corvette" video.

And thus my love for him has blossomed...almost have every album and more.

The album cover of 1999.

I was drawn 2 it before I heard any of the songs. Then I did hear the title track. Liked it a lot. Then I heard "International Lover." I was baffled by how distinctly different the sounds were between the 2 songs. At that time I had a 3 song minimum 2 buy an album. Then I heard "Little Red Corvette," and I was sold. Well, not exactly. I was 11, and with no disposable income, I spent a couple of months saving pennies 2 go get my disc. I still remember going 2 the bank 2 turn 'em in, then straight away to "Record Bar" 2 pick up my first Prince investment. While I did not imagine at that time what a profound that album, and Prince, would have on my life, I did know that it wasn't "just another album."

Now "1999" is emblazoned on my arm 4ever. See a pic here: http://hometown.aol.com/madartista

ok I was in the 5th grade in 1982.. it was my first girlfriend & she was having her birthday! It was really my first guy & girl party to go too (like that)

well her parents were cool and the young parents, they must of been early 30's.. well they had the 1999 album we played it because of the album cover..it looked cool

well we danced to it ALL night.

(now I dont know if I am remembering this correct but the same night or year or so later, we heard "Erotic City" and couldn't believe it wasn't on an album. but a B-side single type thing.. and when Prince said "Fuck" we couldn't believe it!! It was soo different amazing shocking and just blew our minds that you can say that on a record.

* Where I totally love only Prince's music was in 7th Grade going into 8th and Prince won all those awards on the American Music Awards!! when prince came up and just said "thank you" and just ran back down.. having his bodyguard come up with him.. & just the strange interesting faces he made all night smile

I went out and bought "Prince Pins" for my Jean Jacket.. and had all of them on there.. and I remember people thought I was strange because they were only into Ozzy & stuff like that..

I always liked some of his music growing up, then a girlfriend bought me the Hits/B-sides for my b-day in '93 and I became hooked. I then set out to collect every Prince CD I could get my hands on.

Age 12 - hearing "When Doves Cry" on the radio, Summer '84. Instantly hooked, started playing the keyboard hook on the piano, saw the video, bought the album, got floored and the rest is as you'd expect!

The Glam Slam single.

I bought it for 10p in a bargain bin because i loved the packaging (clear slip-case with the pink arrow sticker). I'd always been aware of Prince before that but was a bit young to really appreciate his music.

I took the single home, loved it and loved 'Escape' on the b-side even more - in fact, I'd say Esacpe was the song that really hooked me in. Which is a bit odd, seeing as it's such a throwaway number.
