If Prince was the one singing on Elixir

Would you like the album? I was listening to that album and i think it's very interesting album.very different in sound then the usual Prince.Did fans dismissed the album just because of Bria's vocal performance.

I would. I even enjoy Tamar's album.

But Bria's vocals just do nothing for me.

Yup, I'd actually like some of the songs if he was singing...

Maybe one day Prince singing Elixer will make it's way out of the vault, along with Prince singing 'The Time' albums and 'Vanity 6'

I love this cd-but I'm not a fan of the vocals by Bria. She's more singer than vocalist. Just imagine Sade singing this Cd-That would be hot!!

But Prince singing would be cool.

That was the first Prince related CD that was like work to listen to. I don't think I will revisit that CD again.

Prince is singing most of the song Elixer itself, it's one of the most Princely songs Prince has snuck onto an album recently with a very 80's Prince agenda to it's sex theme and wordplay and mix.

I wish he had kept that song for his own album.

It would have been a major improvement, and placed the album in a 'good' forgettable category.

As it is, the album is in a bad and forgettable category.

And, this hinges greatly on the very bland vocals of the lead singer--Bria.

Yes, I would love to hear Prince say..."I need 7 inches more"

A few of the songs couldn't be salvaged regardless of who sang them. However, there are others, such as "All This Love" and "Something U Already Know" that I probabably would've liked even more if Prince was on vocals. "Immersion" and "Elixer" of course, work just the way they are.

If you want to hear his take on Elixer, try the Montreux 2009 show

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Agreed, that song is the highlight of the whole set IMO, sadly many fans missed it as they didn't even bother to play the disc which is a silly attitude IMO.

(Sometimes I find there is more 'Prince' in songs he writes for other people than his own, therefore these are not to be overlooked, some of my fav P songs were written for others, think Jill Jones' album or the excellent 'Sugar Walls' for Sheena).

It's one of the best songs he's done for years, it's on a par with anything he released in the mid 80s IMO....

This seems so strange to me. Why the hell would you not listen to it? I mean even if you turned out to hate it why would you pre-hate it. Some of you guys are "strange but true" I guess.

Exactly. Many times songs he has done for/with others are as "Princely" as songs he has done himself yet some fans can't be bothered. Its weird lol.

The first Prince-related CD that actually WAS work to listen to, (as opposed to just being like work) was Kamasutra. Holy christ - that record is as bad as the movie Grafitti Bridge. You can watch the beginning, the middle or the end, but not all at once.

Oh please. For the same rearson many folks didn't rent house party 3.

I don't love Elixer, but it has its place. Specifically, left on your phone to play at random as background music while you're walking around town.

Prince vocals might make it more interesting, but with the songs written the way they were - to be background music, allegedly - then that wouldn't change much about the album.

"Kept Woman" is pretty good, as is the title track. I can't remember any of the other track titles, which probably says something.

except unlike house party 3 you have already purchased elixer. So why not just play it with an open mind?

There are a couple of decent tracks on Elixir, and the project, musically, seems to have good intentions - but at the end of the day, whether the voice is male or female it just isn't going to save a crap song.

Because, like House Party 3, you know it's going to be horrible already. And, it is only in your possession because it was part of the package that you had to buy.

There's really no god reason to listen to it.

I wouldn't compare House Party 3. Elixer the album is very underrated.there are many things going on in terms of sonic and arangments.what is great about it also is the fact Prince produced album you could never guess it was him.it don't sound like Prince unlike majority the stuff he produced for others.i think fans didn't bother to listen.album is much better then some people give it credit.

If it had been a Prince album the general opinion would probably have been a little more positive. And not only because of his singing, but simply because it was Prince. I cannot guarantee that it wouldn't have affected me too.

I haven't listened to Elixer yet. It's reasonable to assume that Prince didn't put the best material on that album so it's pretty low on my list of priorities, but I will listen to it eventually. I've heard four of the songs from other sources and I wasn't impressed.

I LOVE "Elixir", however, I liked Tamar's "Milk and Honey" CD more than "Elixir". If the truth be told Elixir is the only boss cut on the CD. I'm still a little pissed that Prince backed Bria instead of Tamar's vocals. Not cool. I felt like Prince just forgot all about Tamar when the Universal deal didn't go through. nod sad

And you know its going to be horrible because? You would think just good ole human curiosity is enough to give it a listen. You could throw it on while driving, while cleaning the house, while having dinner. The whole willful ignorance to me is just astounding.

Its a strange cult of personality that has some fans both in awe of Prince's talent and also completely dismissive of that same talent all within the same fan. I truly believe Prince's fans are stranger then he is lol.
