Yes you are luicky, here all you find is local reggae, Island music and country and western albums, or rap by groups like Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Chingy, D12 etc, cds usually in poor condition with photocopied slicks telling you to go to the counter as they have problems with ghetto teens stealing them.

In my country its impossible to find a thrift/pawn store thats not completely ghetto or in the ghetto itself.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Auckland New Zealand, all the pawn stores are in low income areas like Glen Innes, Panmure, Otara, Otahuhu, Mangere, Ranui, Henderson etc (Our version of Compton and Watts), most are full of Polynesians and Maoris and state houses and the shopping centres are all full of fish and chip shops, loan shark companies, pawn stores, bars with gaming machines, cosmic corner drug stores, TAB betting shops, $2 ghetto junk stores, liquor stores that cash cheques and sell cheap beer and ghetto wine and sleazy general stores. Graffiti is everywhere and all the shops have corrugated iron roll down doors and groups of layabouts begging or playing loud rap music along with windscreen cleaners.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Goodness, that was evocative. Do you work for the tourism board?? :-p

I used to work with a lady from New Zealand and I always wondered why she'd chosen to emigrate over here (Scotland). You've maybe provided a reason for it - but I appreciate everywhere has good and bad areas!

On topic, it's amazing how much money I'd have saved if I wasn't such an avid fan. Emancipation for three pounds sterling (i.e. five dollars US) was a highlight..I felt like it was a bit of a slap in the face for Prince at the time...how could he be so devalued?? To be introduced to our man now is so much cheaper than when I became obsessed in the eighties.

This was before the time when CDs in general are devalued - a few years from now they'll be the way of cassette tapes.

not until they offer FLAC/WAV files for digital download. 256kbps 320, whatever, is worthless.

They've been in there for decades. Vinyl, CDs, cassettes, 8 tracks, DVDs, VHS tapes. I go straight for the vinyl though and don't waste my time on that other stuff. You can find some much better deals at the thrift stores than at the used record stores because a lot of them are simply individuals that don't know the value of what they're selling. Just last weekend, I bought Sylvester's "Stars" album in absolute excellent condition for $2. That same exact album is in the used record store for $12.

Andy is a four letter word.

They have always been there..that's true, but I've always seen music from my great-grand and grand-parents era. I'm just not ready to see find music from my generation in thrift stores, tossed like an old wrinkled jacket! eek

But then again, music on physical formats have little value in the digital age.

sad
