This song took a GOOD while to "grow on" me..
I like it enough now, but it's still kind of all over the place. I think this song would be better if the tempo were a little slower. Then, there's that line late in the song, which I'm sure could be debated forever.. does Prince say: "you want me to swim in your love sea" or "you want me to swivel in your love seat" (I think it's this 1) rain is wet & sugar is sweet I'll see you tonight..

Best part of this song: when the music stops for a split second, and Prince says "Dig me, now.."...lol...just an amazingly cool moment in one amazingly cool and funky song...

This album helped me realize my purpose and who i was all along...i was a youngin when this record was released, but I used to lock myself up in my room and play this entire album an Lovesexy was my favorite!!!

Why Lovesexy never got released after that nobody knows, as remixes were made, and a single edit, (which clocks in at about 3 minutes). There were plans to release 6 (!) singles from Lovesexy initially; Alphabet St, Glam Slam, Lovesexy,  No, I Wish U Heavan & When 2 R In Love. Though the later ones never materialised due to Prince moving on to the Batman soundtrack. | |

There was footage of Prince at the mixing desk, remixing the Lovesexy 12" on that Prince: A Musical Portrait program.

I remain intrigued by the fact that there is a totally different and unrelased studio version of the track 'Lovesexy' lurking around somewhere.
According to UPTOWN, the original version of 'Lovesexy', which was taped as a band recording (on December 14th 1987), was "lighter and bouncier". . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person." | |
