Is The Purple Medley any good

I used to own the CD single of The Purple Medley. I sold it before I ever even listened to it. I just recently learned that it contains re-recorded segments if classics, along with some samples of original recordings. That got my interest. Is this song any good? Is it worth tracking down?

Vocally it's amazing how he re-creates almost perfectly the original sound, musically it's pretty flat using a crappy thin drum machine sound. Also it phases into the next song too quickly.

It's not great and certainly will not make you forget the originals but if you can find it cheap you should probably pick it up and give it a listen. I find it interesting to hear how he stitched everything together. It's not something that I listen to often but it's far from terrible.

I don't Think It's That Bad. I have it In my Mp3 player Myself... But there are several Remixes that The fans Made (There are In Youtube, Soundcloud,Mediafire) which Are better than the Purple Medley ^^

IT'S A BIT TONGUE IN... whoops... sorry for shouting,

It's a bit tongue in cheek, and, I think, is his inside joke reference to "Hooked On Classics". I like it. But it is made to sound simple and cheesy. But I say that's intentional.

I think it's pretty good. If you're a fan of the hits you'll enjoy it.

I actually like it...especialy the re-recorded sections....I think it was KirkyJ (GameBoy) that worked with Prince on this.....The video was played at the beginning of the shows on the Gold tour (Ultimate Tour) and I beliueve Japan as well as some gigs at paisley Park they preformed the full extended version live.

4DF's Open Sessions (4DF 006-009) has an recording of this on Disc 3

The beginning is pretty lame, but it gets good after Purple Rain. All in all it's much better than 1999 The New Master.

You absolutely need to hear it... it's pretty damn impressive to hear what he did with it all. Some of the arrangements are pretty damn cool like the A Love Bizarre part and especially the Thieves In The Temple part - atleast for me.

It was certainly an interesting period in what appeared to be a fascinating career to that point.

The Pirple Medley is an awesome exercise in arranging. I'm usually not a big fan of those drum sounds, but it's cool. What I REALLY want to hear, however, is the Gold Experience medley he lip-synced and danced to on that awards show, (I forget which one). THAT was rad.

Its pretty cool. My favorite part of it was the mash up of Sexy MF and Irresistable Bitch... Man that was sick.

It seems really rushed, like he did it in five seconds. This is odd because this was the period that he was really writing some great stuff.

The Diamonds and Pearls part I really like.

Yeah the "mashup" parts are the highlights for me.

He sings Irrisistible Bitch over the music of Sexy MF.

There's a part near the end when blends Cream & Peach.

This then becomes a jam out of sorts using the live-Peach coda

of the time which as we know is the riff he used as the base of

Chaos & Disorder.

I also liked how he threw in A Love Bizarre and one

single lick from 777-9311.

Yeah and like someone else said, it really picks up where

the extended portion kicks in.

American Music Awards can't recall the year(have on DVD at home).

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I still have it somewhere on VHS confused Love the Billy Jack Bitch part!!

The Purple Mix long version is great! Remember how The Gold/Ultimate concert began with the clip (short v.) and afterwards they announce: this is not a prince concert!!! Great concert but a bit a strange period in P history wink
