Two similarly trashed films featuring top level musicians at peak of their crafts, falling miserably on their faces.

Sgt Pepper fails for the sheer volume of wasted talent on the screen. Even where the covers are very good (Earth Wind & Fire and Aerosmith) the bad direction and dull film surrounding these performances ensure they will never be noticed. But who could predict a film of the Beatles best songs, covered by the Bee Gees, Billy Preston, Alice Cooper, Peter Frampton, and with appearances by Steve Martin and George Burns could be so shockingly bad?

Graffiti Bridge fails for the mystifyingly bad acting, directing, and writing. Like Sgt Pepper, the good music is buried in the enormous piles of excrement that surround it, and those scenes are generally ruined by bad direction anyway. GB also fails in following the near perfect collection of performances and interesting style of Purple Rain. All of the excitement that movie generated in audiences is squeezed dry as you try to remember what it was that you liked about it, thinking surely these cannot be the same performers!

So which one is worse? And do they have anything redeeming about them?

Sgt. Pepper was worse because the Beatles weren't in it.

Graffiti Bridge's saving grace was the fact that Prince was in it and looking damn yummy.

I would have to say 'Sgt Peppers' is the worse movie.After the first day of filming,even the Bee Gees knew that it wouldn't work: they tried to get out of it,but they had already signed the contracts and filmed several scenes! There are a few good scenes (the musical scenes with the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton are good),but the movie is a total MESS.....it's really just a collection of bad,late-70s music videos of Beatles covers.Not much of a story there.I have always wondered what the original Beatles thought of this film.

'Graffiti Bridge' is terrible and should have never made it into theatres (it should have been a home video release only),but it's slightly more watchable than 'Sgt Peppers'.

Holy shit, Sgt Pepper's is MUCH BETTER than Graffiti Bridge. It's even better than the horrible but well shot "Across the Universe" musical movie.

It's got a better storyline, a better agenda and style, better music, better casting, and it is actually structured like a functional narrative, unlike say "Graffiti Bridge" (or "Across the Uinverse").

It's actually fun, and funny, and trippy. Come on, it's got Aerosmith, Steve Martin, Billy Preston, Alice Cooper... (all so much more entertaining than Bono in the newer Beatles musical)

I will admit that "Across the Universe" had one good number and visuals with "I Want You, She's So Heavy" But Sgt Pepper's got it beat by having the number actually be a functional part of the story with functional characters (no matter how campy, it works).

You know what's horrible? The movie version of "Rock of Ages". It fails!!!!

I put Sgt Pepper on the tv after a party a year ago with art college hipsters, and everyone was totally into it. It's campy, cartoonish, but quite functional.

Graffiti Bridge doesn't even function as a story. Non one would have kept their attention on it if I had put that on.

Yes the choice is Graffiti Bridge

Plus the waste of a movie with good music worked on by a totally different band and era turned out to be a bit too counterfeit for me

He should have just a totally new set of music for film like New Power & Theives in the Temple

I was totally embarrassed when I watched it with my brothers and some others.

I think I agree. Sgt Pepper does have camp value, though watching it from beginning to end is a pretty tedious prospect. And even though I don't like the Bee Gees versions of the songs nearly as much as the originals, they did have some charm.

Graffiti Bridge quite simply is the worst movie I have ever seen. That is an achievement, still.

yeah, GB has some good songs, but nothing that has made any real impact on society. Sgt Pepper, obviously, also has great and important (if not original) songs

I think 'Xanadu' is a good movie,in a "guilty pleasure"-type of way You just have to ignore the fact that it has no plot,and allow yourself to get lost in the music...lol...

I've never watched Sgt Pepper but I always felt as if Prince just half assed the Grafitti Bridge movie because he was depressed. I am not sure why a rock star the magnitude of Prince would portray himself as a washed up artist who nobody likes anymore, especially since the soundtrack was incredible. The whole movie is a sob story. Poor me. Nobody understands me.

There were traces of that in Purple Rain, but Albert Magnoli and Hollywood peeps made sure it all worked.
