Crazy Guitar Guy In Purple Rain I recently watched the movie again and I noticed during Dez's "Modernaire" number there was this guy playing the guitar wearing red who was just JAMMING out to his own rhythm! Do any of you remember this or know who he is? oh and if someone has a gif of that...HAND IT OVER The folks from Brooklyn play da bass pretty good but the ones from Minneappolis play it like they OUGHTA SHOULD!

Dez Dickerson: “Without a doubt, the most widely known and sought-after of my songs is ‘Modernaire’. The song was immortalized in the film, Purple Rain, during my performance onstage with my band, The Modernaires (then comprised of Paul Cassady on bass, Roland Lozier on keyboards, Ernie LaViolet on drums, and the late, great Joe Hunt on guitar). Whilst all but 18 seconds of our big screen debut wound up on the cutting room floor, the song became somewhat of an underground favourite, with some going as far as taking a snippet of the tune from the film soundtrack and looping it!

Ha ha, yes, that guy sure does pull focus in that scene.
Of course, that's the freedom of lip-synching a performance; you could never actually play a guitar while jerkin' around like that. Dr. Fink used to do the same thing.

I didn't realized their performance scene was expected to be longer

I actually know Paul Cassidy (Bass player ), he told me that Joe Hunt was an incredible guitar player. So incredible that Prince in fact would always watch them play from the side in amazement. I got a non circulating live show of them from 1983 I believe, a New Years Eve show at the Ritz in New York, a fun show to watch Joe in and Dez of course does some Prince covers. Joe Hunt is no longer with us, he died many years ago but I forgot the reason, it was a terminal illness if I remember right. RIP Joe Hunt. ..."holding someone is truly believing"

And you can finally hear the song in its entirety too!
I was one of those of people who wanted so badly to hear the whole song back in the 80s
So glad to finally have a copy! Cool song! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
