same here, my parents are always worried about what im listening to..cuz ..ya kno they grew up in the 80's, and in minnesota, and they know about some of the things he sings about.....but i always tell them that they r lucky im not listening to the music today. some of its 10 times worse.
And im still discovering new music.... he has so many songs. I know what you mean about extralovable too, when i heard that part i just froze, my parents were sitting on the couch and i said almost the same exact thing. DID PRINCE JUST SAY HE WAS GONNA RAPE ME?

I'm really happy that I discovered Prince as well. I'm not as young as some of you 16 years olds but I'm still very young in relation to the majority of Prince fans and the majority of the people on these forums. I'm 21 and discovered Prince in 2008. I shouldn't say discovered, because I had heard of him before, but I had never heard any of his songs. It's safe to say that listening to Prince has completely changed the way I listen to and think about music. Sometimes I wish that more of my friends or colleagues would be into Prince, but almost none of them are.
It's honestly been an amazing experience listening to Prince's music. There is just so much stuff to discover out there, it's incredible. I've discovered so much music because of one man. And the more I researched and read about him the more crazy I became as a fan. First, you learn that here's a guy who writes everything, composes everything, arranges everything, plays every instrument, is constantly recording and has more outtakes than most artists have official material in their entire discography.
Also seeking out the music is so enjoyable. It never ends, and you can never run out of new things to find. I mean, I started of with the main studio albums. Then I started seeking out the singles and EPs to listen to the extended versions, remixes and B-Sides. Then I started finding the NPGMC stuff, downloading the ahdio shows and rare stuff like: S.S.T., Live From Paisley Park, One Song, Cybersingle, 1999: The New Master (the less said about this, the better LOL), the Days Of Wild single, Supercute, and there's so much more things to add to the list, but I won't.
And that's just official stuff! Then you get into the bootlegs, and that's a whole 'nother level. Finding the rehearsals for every tour, the aftershows, the concerts, the soundboard recordings, the vault tracks, etc. There's so much incredible stuff there. Things like the Parade shows, the Lovesexy Japanese soundboards, the 2009 Montreux shows, the 27th birthday show, the One Nite Alone shows, and there's hundreds more stuff, I'd never finish if I listed them all.
Incredibly, all that is only Prince! Then I started getting songs from associated artists, like: The Time, The Family, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, Tamar, Ingrid Chavez, Jesse Johnson, Madhouse, Eric Leeds, Elisa Fiorillo, Wendy & Lisa, Sheila E., André Cymone, Dez Dickerson, Jill Jones, Marazati, etc. Hell, I even got Mayte's album because I'm becoming such a collectist freak.
Then after that there is so much music I discovered not because Prince created them, but because they're artists that he himself respects. I've discovered so many artists thanks to Prince. Artists like: Parliament-Funkadelic, Maceo Parker, Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Sly & The Family Stone, Joni Mitchell, and the list goes on and on for days.
And all this, from one man!

Great thread, BTW
far too many cool comments to really go thru them all.
I know what you mean and strangely, I came across Prince by accident a number of times before I made things officially... sought out the music and all that By that time, dial-up was a thing of the past so searching the web made things a lot easier.
That, and the fact I was away at college by that point. Both at the maturity level where I could handle all the stuff Prince was capable of and that's the time in your life where you kinda come into your own with stuff like this.
I don't think I can fully go into all the stuff I'd gotten out of my time with Prince, whether its finding my voice as a writer, forming some lifetime long friendships, really getting a respect for musicians and singer/songwriters probably my favorite "if not for Prince, I wouldn't have discovered" artist is Wendy & Lisa
Now there are more than enough artists in the world to satisfy me as a music junkie and while I have more out there that I enjoy, Prince sets the benchmark for me as in there's nobody I know who is so skilled at what he does.
now if only he'd get with the program and start releasing albums again but there's more than enough music out there from him to satisfy even if this lull lasts for decades. That's part of the beauty of all this had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Hey y’all, it is great finding the org! and rediscovering my love for the man! I came across this site after googling more info on Prince when i stumbled on some of his videos online....and what! Is it a domino effect or what! Once you start there’s no stopping you. It is like an itch that just won’t give. In the last 3 months or so i have spent a lot of my time online searching for more of my Prince.
I am so curious and intrigued beyond what i thought possible. I am glad to have rekindled my love for him, his music and talent. The emotions am experiencing are akin to young love... that feeling you get when dating a fresh boyfriend....excitement, anxiety, or pure joy especially with every new discovery i make. ..I was so ecstatic listening to his version of ‘how come you don’t call me anymore’ on replay like 10 times. I had no idea that was his song. Plus many many more... am sure i will bore you guys trying to re-enact every moment.
Well now am determined to amass anything and everything on the man. Thank you for this forum. There is so much info on here on Prince and also on other artists. I am also happy to be able to express myself freely with likeminded folk on the object of my love and admiration. I have learned that outside of this forum to keep my thoughts about Prince to myself. If I verbalize this to anyone else, they'll probably have a straightjacket waiting for me
For those going for his concerts in Chicago later this month, enjoy on my behalf. I do hope that i will one day be privileged to see him perform live. I read somewhere on this forum that he had plans to perform in South Africa after the world cup which were later shelved. Maybe he might revive those plans and come closer to our part of the world. I've been a fan since I was in highschool bout 30 years ago..me n prince are almost same age!But I have to admit I wasn't fully appreciative of his talent till I saw purple rain.My younger sister had posters all over her room & alot of his music.I remember seeing his videos but I really think became a true fan when I saw him in this movie.I really admire how he became so successful despite all he went thru while growing up.He is so Multi talented and gifted. I love his music..& he's brightened up my days whenever I'm going thru my cancer treatments. I finally saw him concert last year, and all I know is the person next to me could of been on fire, and I wouldn't of noticed! It was one of my happiest moments for sure! !!

That's awesome youre an atheist from venezuela(beautiful country btw), I bet listening to Prince & being an atheist makes you kinda like a weirdo where you live, but you know what? WHO CARES! live your life the way you want to. I've met quite a lot prince fans ( and people who appreciate his music) who are 15-23 years old on Tumblr, it's not strange because we had parents who lived in the 80s /or we are just interested in music in general.
