not true!need new releases thats fonky!

Let's nuance that a bit. So, fonky or not, he doesn't play his newer stuff. That is the core issue. So thus I think that it doesn't matter whether he releases stuff. He just has to play it. That is what counts. That is what shows where his heart is. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

My guess, Prince is holding back a little, hasn't quit imo... album wise, (not live in concert)...
after all these years with disappointment after disappointment (album not live), I still have high hopes (to some degree), that Prince will find his funk soul again and release another smash album.
But no jazz-zzZzzZZzzZ please... no instrumental, that is too boooooring...
I need a great pop-funk-rock-soul album, a lot of different styles like let's say: The Gold Experience..
But I have a fear that Prince is too greedy.
Prince absolutely want to see BIG $$$$$$$$, from a record company.
And who will pay him after several disasters, album wise....
maybe we have to wait til "his" payment "problem" is solved... (damn)...
I would wish Prince wasn't that greedy when it comes to record deals..
He could easily have a site for fans with downloads, but he won't after all those failures, right? Prince 4Ever.

^Oh come on, thedance, I thought you'd know better!
Another TGE, another combo of conventional pop-funk-rock-soul, no instrumentals, no jazz, no experiments? That would be exactly what he's kinda trying all the time anyway. I'd like to see him to take a stand artistically and not to whore around by doing all the styles he is known for.

If anything, there needs to be built up demand. From listeners and himself. I dont see it. I mean from besides the 3 people that believe MPLsound should have been a hit and the demand to pay his bills. If Prince wants to chill and relax he has earned it. If he wants to retire now he has nothing left to prove. If he is happy cool. Let him be. ...and for those who want more of the same. Remember, you will always have MPLSound Emancipation and 20ten. The rest of us still have SOTT. No worries.

I wasn't gonna comment. Just wanted to say my man is FAR from over except one critique I will add. If/when he goes back on tour again, I would like for him to come up with another title besides Welcome2whatever. Start a whole new tour with songs he never performs and the ones that are explicit that he said he would never perform again he could clean them up. He's a genius. I am tired of hearing the same songs on all the Welcome2 tours. As far as him putting out an album, if he never again or if he doesn't in a while, it would be fine cuz Prince used to put out an album and a tour a year. If anybody deserves a BREAK it's him. He's 54 not 24. [Edited 8/6/12 12:14pm]

I don't think Prince has to do anything anymore. He has proven his greatness throughout a long career. Much longer than many other artists ever have. He has changed styles and musical styles and has written everything under the cherry moon. Does he have to reach out to todays youth or try to recapture what he did in the beginning? No. What Prince does from this point on in his life and career are gifts to us. He doesn't owe us anything, and like it or not, will release music on his terms and music that he is making now. If we like it, we like it, and if not... well, we don't. No need for discussing this over and over again. I feel awesome knowing that some of the best music ever created is at my fingertips... and plenty of tunes that I can listen to anytime I wish... that is what he has given us his entire life. If he is planning on something else, we'll see... if not, he has more than done his job.

the 54 excuse makes no sense....hes not dead......many people passionate and producing hits past 60 and 70 years of age
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly!!!
The age discussion is worthless because it's art - not the 100 metre dash.
Also, comparing Prince to other artists misses the point of what art is. Again, this isn't a competition - it's art that is emotive or not.

The question is not if he has proven himself.
The question is: should he stop? The answer of course being yes.
Hey, he can still make music - just don't release it! And he seems to be well on track with that.
Oh yes.

Don't know about you guys, but I have never met a Prince record I didn't like in some way. I think of his music as a collective unit, as a corpus of work that provides some form of insight in to his creativity. From the 1980s to the present there's no one else who compares. I don't think he has quit, or should quit, I just think he has evolved in multiple ways over the years. Some fans appreciate his evolutions and the music that accompanies them, and some don't. I think it's that simple. Perhaps some of us quit on him years ago by refusing to accept his different styles and messages. Relax and let the Artist be an Artist. Let's enjoy him while we have him.

When people figure out the music biz in this era they will understand what is occuring with Prince,Madonna,Springsteen, and others who are great and will command a fee greater than what the bean counters are willing to spend.
The result is artists being put out to pasture.

I say he has quit. Someone tweeted spotting Prince shopping at Target in his PJs. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Sorry, but they're entitled to their opinion, just as you are entitled to yours. In the end, neither is any more valid. For example, Purple Rain, Parade, Sign o' the Times - those were not mailed in albums. The ones you mention on the other hand...
Opinions.
Granted, when you use things like proper punctuation & sentence structure & spell out words like you, some opinions seem more informed than others.

agree 100% to your post as a fan since 1982 - some people think he is holding back for some odd reason - I say he is just being an artist and creating what he wants to - as any creative person should

i can go in the kitchen pull out some spices and "create" something..being creative and being ground breaking and revolutionary are 2 different things

oh man thats awesome. So many times I've wanted to do that. He's just won my heart all over again!!! Peace in the House of Prince.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
he has been making music for over 30 years and is a creative artist and as any artist through history has shown - has his up and down periods-
if you could create something in the kitchen 'groundbreaking and revolutionary' constantly for 30 years then kudos to you and please write a cookbook

He's the hero Erotic City deserves, but not the one it needs right now. Like The Dark Knight, Prince will return.

Nope, Prince hasn't quit. I went to his concerts last year and wasn't disappointed. And I just listened to the Melweg aftershow again where he did Beautiful Strange--and the passion he threw into it blew me away... Prince hasn't lost "IT" by a long-shot. Whether he chooses to put this kind of strength and passion into his future studio endeavors and release them to the public is another issue. No quit at all! Today's music is sooooo watered down that true musicianship is rarely appreciated anymore. He knows full well what he is cable of and has nothing to prove to the newer generation of point, click, and save artists. Truly, he is still in a class of his own. An artist and entertainer in the truest form. What artist can entertain an audience on the level he can for an extended period of time without tracks and overdubs? Let's not forget what musicianship is versus what we get force fed on a daily basis. He has not developed "quit", we have been conditioned to settle for less.
