Dear Prince.org,

From Beginning Endlessly...

"Why should you be satisfied with just heaven and earth, when if you look around, there is so much more to the universe"

What do you think Prince is trying to say here? Are there any sections of music + lyrics from 20Ten which, likewise, still make you smile?

Overall, I find 20Ten continues to surprise with subtle layers of depth; it also carries a somewhat dark vibe.

love,

Spirit

TheKnowledge,

Clearly, not all of us are as intelligent or articulate as you are.

I wonder how powerful you really are.

Why was this CD not physically available beyond one newspaper?

Maybe his publishing company cut an "exclusive" deal on distribution?

Perhaps no one else wanted it, or Prince was happy with the pocketchange from the newspaper deals and thought no more of it - the album certainly sounds like a toss-off.

Not sure about any exclusivity, it was released through various different newspapers across Europe, I don't know if they were all under the same publishing group, but I've never heard that being the case. Certainly Planet Earth got a retail release in some countries, and was up for one in the UK too IIRC until there was a stink about the free version. So I don't think any exclusivie deals were done.

In stores, it looks like the last thing he released was 2009's LOtUSFLOW3R. Even I forget about this album sometimes when people post that they want a new disc.

Do you have a copy from the newspaper, ND? All I've seen is the mp3s and the cover art as a jpg.

Yeah I have at least a couple knocking around.

Pretty sure I remember picking one up in the afternoon and they had STACKS of the things, couldn't shift them. Then that week a few people said "you like Prince don't you? Here have this" and chucked their copy at me!

You could order them for a while from the Daily Mail website, and I'm certain you can still buy them from amazon sellers/ebay etc.

Because that's the year it was released?

I like a lot of the songs but again the album title doesn't bring any cohesive feel with the songs

I liked the design graphics of the 20Ten sleeve.

We can look at it from a bible point of view ...Let's see hmmm

Jeremiah 20:10

Yes, I hear the whisperings of many:

“Terror on every side!

Denounce! let us denounce him!”

All those who were my friends

are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

“Perhaps he can be tricked; then we will prevail,

and take our revenge on him.”

Leviticus 20:10

"'If a man commits adultery with another man's wife--with the wife of his neighbor--both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

Revelation 20:10

10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and [a]brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Exodus 20:10

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Deuteronomy 20:10

10 When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace.

Provers 20:10

False weights and unequal measures--the LORD detests double standards of every kind.

Job 20:10

10 His children must make amends to the poor;
his own hands must give back his wealth.

Any of these doing it for you? lol

To take advantage of a really boss logo designed around the phrase "20Ten", obviously.

I was listening to 20Ten the other night and was thinking about the noticeable

1999 throwback sounds that people were talking about when it first came out.

Maybe there is a subtle connection between the two albums named after years.

when he put out 1999 he was thinking ahead to a time that had not yet happend.

20Ten is like 10 years beyond when he was looking ahead to. Like "20Ten, this

is where I am now" it's ten years after 1999. (well 11 I know whatever)

OK thin yeah I know, but i was also stoned at the time smile

"Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

Probably just a reference to the year of recording/release. I always liked this album, one of his best since Gold was released IMO. Lavaux, Act Of God and Sticky Like Glue always do it for me, and there are other interesting songs on there as well.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Prince's Answer:

So why did you decide to call the album 20TEN? I ask. "I just think it's a year that really matters," he says. These are very trying times." To emphasise the point he chivvies me into another room, switches on the TV and shows me clips from an evangelical TV documentary blaming corporate America for a range of woes from Hurricane Katrina to asthmatic children.

I never thought about before but it's a nice idea to have a song and a cd with year dates. Have other artists done this? There are 10 tracks and Laydown at 77 leaves 67 spaces before it. Nice touch. Prince's birthday, American date style. I forget about this album because I mix Prince's music into lists of similar style tracks but it's a great cd, with a colourful blend of tracks and some gorgeous lyrics.....lots of smiles to be had. cool

"Compassion" we need Compassion.....definitely in 2010 after 2008 when everything went so wrong, worldwide with the bankers, investors and all the synthentic securitisation which led to increasing poverty, unemployment and repossession of homes for many.

"Beginning Endlessly" sexy song, great lyrics - no matter what goes down or on around you, every moment is a new beginning.

"Future Soul Song" 'in the absence of fear and control' ...total surrender and a world of bliss, piloting the flight by mind control, a perfect world.

"Sticky Like Glue" nice summer track, 'the sweat of each other sticky like glue' another sexy one with some cool low key rapping.

"Act of God" One of my favourites. The whole message. 'Call it what u want except force maejure' i.e. man created mess. Deep bassy track and sexy voice.

"Lavaux" Another favourite - Visual track, describes, I think Prince's feelings of travels; great happy track. Takes you with him in this one.

"Walk in Sand" Prince sounds really in love here. Big smile, dreamy romantic beach ballad smile

"Sea of Everything" Favourite of my ballads. Pretty piece of music, Prince's romantic feminine side he understands females totally. Adorable!

"Everybody Loves Me" Prince and his sense of humour! Still the honky tonk piano bit funky and the track will annoyingly get you singing along with it eventually, despite the simple chords and beat.

"Laydown" Yeah this one could be the darker side of the album. Good song if you're angry or annoyed. For me anyway. But I like the Purple Yoda, coming in the summer of 2010 to brighten up the world and it's dark set stage. Hope the Jedi has something new in store for us as we approach the end of 2012.

"Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
