it's the lightweight, schmaltzy jingly keyboard sound that came in then and still keeps croping up, it's even on 20ten.... ruining song after song... i could cry!

Other than missing the "Head" solo, I didn't think the sound suffered that much after Dr. Fink left. However, I always wondered what Morris Hayes did during his interval of not working with Prince. Did he return to working in Minneapolis, or did he do something else?

Dr Fink got 12 and a bit years. Joined Prince in the fall of 78 and was only jilted in January 1991 when he could not play Rock in Rio, by 1989 Prince had got tired of him as he had ballooned in weight and got married (As in Possessed, he couldn't do Rio - You couldn't drop everything for me, so goodbye). Originally Tommy Elm was only a temporary, but Prince made the switch permanent and maybe as he still wanted one token musical white member in the band (Diamond and Pearl were white, but just dancers). Elm lasted at least 8 years as he was there in late 98.

Larry has been with him since late 97/early 98, so thats 14 years. Mr Hayes definitely he has longevity a founding member of the NPG, and in the current line. What about John Blackwell? (Prince has always had great people behind his drum kits (Sheila E, Michael B and Blackwell).

Hayes wasn't a full stretch band member

Here is a pic of Dr Fink in 1990 for the Nude tour, hardly 'ballooned in weight' he was pretty fit

I miss Rosie.

I really liked her.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

confuse

Larry is not a band member. He is a friend, and artist in his own right with his own band, who has worked with Prince.

Then I guess Larry must be in the /mate part of the tread title. Not just band members being asked about.

RIP sad

I took it be "bandmate", not "mate" used as "friend".

I think i ought to say that Tommy is a cracking player, it's just the settings on the keyboard that do my crust in

I mean, I just can't imagine Prince being mean to his band members,

Ask the majority of his former band members, they'll change your imagination real quick. Do you not find it strange that Prince currently has a good relationship with basically ZERO of his former band members/associates? Hell, even Sheila finally had enough of his shit.

His actions are no different than that of James Brown to me in terms of band members. JMHO. I only say that because James basically treated his band members like shit but who knows with Prince, he probably does the same thing.

Playing in Prince's band isn't a friendship. I think people know what they're getting into. At least nowadays they should.

I see it like most jobs.

How many of us are "friends" with our employers? Former employers?

I also happen to think Fink was the best in the solo in Baby, I'm A Star.. "Dr Fink!"... his keyboard skills were an essential part in the Prince 80s sound.

I also loved his work in the Lovesexy tour.. he knew how to take it through the stratosphere...

I thought the same thing. Clare had to get paid for his efforts which means he was employeed by Prince. No? I think clare fisher is the winner.
