Every once in a while some artist will cook up a track that immediately sounds so Prince-like you could swear he wrote it for them or they covered some unreleased jam then the next song comes on and it's gone. It's easy to do it for a song but I've yet to come across an artist who can sustain it for an entire CD.

The consensus seemed to be that OK Go did it with Of The Blue Color of The Sky.

I haven't heard it. You feel they managed to catch that Prince vibe on every track? I might have to give it a listen then.

Some tracks more so than others. But, yeah - pretty much.

In fact, I read one review that said, "Prince put out his first good album since the 80s last month in the form of OK GO's 'Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.'" And the band was pretty up front about Prince being an influence.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I´d never heard of that group until you mentioned them here so I searched for them on Youtube but, except for that Skyscrapers song, I really don´t hear many similarities between Prince´s sound and their sound.

Are there any songs of them where the similarities are very audible and obvious?

White Knuckles is the one that struck me as most Prince-like immediately upon hearing it...

Sadly, Prince has never done videos as cool as OK Go's. The do some amazing stuff.

Ahh, ok, now I see what you mean. Thanks for the link. They do indeed sound reminiscent of early Prince and The Time ca. 1982.

Nice choreography in that video. Must´ve been pretty difficult to train those dogs.

Very cute dogs, by the way.

At this stage in Prince's career, I don't know, but it don't even seem like his followers are even trying to top him lol

Just like Coldplay will never top U2 or Radiohead, how Gaga will never top Madonna, GnR could never top The Stones, and how Wendy Williams will never top Rona Barrett...nobody will ever top Prince.

Just like Prince will never top Sly.

Oh come on Skywalker, you know better than that.

You´re right about him being a bit slow but that doesn´t take away from his talent. Maybe he just had a streak of bad luck. Maxwell and Sade are also mad talented, and they´re not the most prolific artists either.

So what if D´Angelo was fat for a while? He was under a lot of pressure and fighting his demons inside. What matters is that he´s still very gifted, still is healthy and alive and creative, and he´s done some interesting, energetic shows in Europe where he played new songs. And he´s been working on his guitar skills.

I´ve never compared Prince and D´Angelo, I like both of them and of course he doesn´t compare to Prince, why should he, he is a Prince fan himself. Would we compared Prince and James Brown? Or Sly? ( I know many do, but you get the point).

His biggest hit, as you call it, has never meant much to me, I never liked it back then and still don´t like it, and the video to it seems to have put a curse on D´Angelo.

Cut him some slack, he´s back, and he´s good.

And in top shape again. ( Not that that really matters to me, but hey, it´s showbiz.) wink

You had me at hello. I was simply responding to the stupidness of the initial post. D'Angelo is cool. Saying he put Prince on notice is not.

"New Power slide...."
