Will Prince's next release be a Double Album? I don't buy this studio rehab bit, been saying that since 97. Remember the 97 bryant gumble interview with mayte? He just regurgitates the same quotes from time to time. The man can't help but record new music, it's in his DNA. That said he's gotta be stockpiling and I'd be surprised if his next release isn't a double dip or maybe a studio album w/ a DVD companion (one can only hope) Once all this Superconductor promotion is outta the way I think we're in for a treat.

I really hope he does release a double album, I dont mind a 1 CD album as long as its fonkyyyy I dont care! I dont think Prince ever stops making music he has enough music made to make enough albums for the next 10 years! the feeling U get when U fall in love not with a girl or a boy but with the heavens above

8 killer tracks would make me happy! Problem: never gonna happen! Prince's approach has become much too conventional for my taste. No edge, no risktaking, no hard funk in sight.

As long as its got 2 or 3 sexy songs on it i.e. Do Me Baby, Insatiable etc I'll love it!! But then again, I'll be happy with anything Prince brings out. Peace in the House of Prince.

Let's pray it is. These concise albums are cool, but these two years better make up for a multi-set with a multitude of amazing stuff. Check me out and add me on:

Maybe, maybe not? I'm still waiting for the Carmen Electra special edition where Prince smacks her ass to the beat mix. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

The single albums are great when they have a concept or sound running through them. Parade, Lovesexy and Come as examples.
But when he does the single albums as eclectic mix-tapes, they just don't seem long enough and they end up being seen as weaker albums.
I would love Prince to do a double-CD now, with a 2hr plus eclectic mix. Something that will make the fans do the 'Imagine xxx album as a single CD', rather than 'Wouldn't single album xxx make a better EP?'

The thing is, 8 killer tracks for you might not be 8 killer tracks for me. I'd rather have the big set that I can pick my own from.
Did we learn nothing from Emancipation? Every persons single disc list is different to everyone elses. I see lists from Emancipation composed entirely of tracks that I hate. Give me the quantity and let me choose my own quality, that's what I say . RIP

a 2 disc album would be great. 1 disc always feels like a bit too little and his 3 disc releases were a bit much. so a 2 disc album would be very interesting indeed.
it would allow him to release some more mainstream pop/rock material and spice it up with some more weird stuff.

The mp3 generation has taken control. Picking here, picking there, forgetting about the dimension of all the pieces fitting together.
I don't want an album that serves them all. I want an album with edgy killer tracks. So it really doesn't matter tbh if you personally like them or not.
There's not one disc of Emancipation working as a convincing album. With lots of goodwill Joint 2 Joint and some balladry could be classified as killer tracks. Not enough to even compile an 8 track quality all around album.

Well U have to remember he's had nothing really in the USA since the whole 3cd release over 3 years ago, and i doubt he will have a record in 2012 so i think he stuck with his "rehab" thing he did say the same thing on Lopez tonight about taking time off and thats why hes been doing all these greatest hits tours. Not really sure what Prince will do next i just hope for something NOT in formula of him which is the typical ballads aimed at RB radio, the typical funk track and toss in some guitar, when he does that he really seems to lose focus and direction on an album, though he tried this with Lotus Flower and i thought disc was strong and then he lost it on the MPLsound disc which i feel overall is one of his weakest albums ever. I hope he takes as much time as he needs to get away from the 20ten and LotusFailur3 sound and onto something new.
At this point there is more of a quality problem then a quantity problem. I just don't care for anything he's done lately. But with 'Turn Me Loose' and some of the arrangements at his shows lately, he's shown that deep down he's still got it. It's just about getting him to put it on disc "Prince doesn't have verbal diarrhea, he has studio diarrhea...." Allen Leeds

That is exactly my point, Joint 2 Joint is terrible, I can't stand it. 8 'killer' tracks of that level of tat would be his worst album ever for me. Obviously, you'd love it though, so that's ok eh? How sefish to suggest that you want an album and you don't care if anyone else likes it.
One mans killer is another mans filler. You'd probably hate an album of 8 tracks that I considered killer. And that's the beauty of Prince, something for everyone.
MP3 generation, lol, I'm 42. But if the choice is either being MP3 generation, or wanting some personal 8 track miracle, I'll go with MP3 gen all the way! RIP

The next release will be a 5 CD effort with 2 live CD's from the Welcome 2... shows, 1 studio CD, Damaris' CD debut and a 100 track CD(but the first 99 tracks will each be 4 seconds of dead air leading into a 24 minute rework of Possessed by Prince & The NPG). When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I hope not. His albums have been getting weaker. If he does lets hope theres some rock and funk type jams like on MPLSOUND, but no more of this R and B trend chasing crap that litters 20Ten (I just heard it today, very weak album).
Prince is 54, he's past all this yo yo break it down type stuff. I heard a Tamar track which was painful to say the least, forgotten its name - but it had a line "Its a beatdown into 2006, 2007, 2008 yo" with that drum machine beat on it.
What I mean iof its a double, its Prince only and not Prince and some talentless bimbo squeaking along to tired Prince lite jams. Does anyone still listen to Elixer anymore, I don't think so. And we want 2 full CD's each CD has to have at least 12 fully baked songs, no segues, lyrical breakdowns, 90 second instrumentals to be counted, no unknown rappers of marginal talent ruining them, and no 8 song albumettes with 75 empty tracks to a secret jam at the end. [Edited 6/26/12 17:44pm] Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

My favorite albums are double albums. Trent Reznor once said that he thinks the idea that albums are dead is bullshit--he still thinks of his work with an a-side and a b-side, and I feel the exact same way.
With a double album, you can take the a-side/b-side concept to greater heights, or be more playful with a/b/a/b or a/b/c/d to fit your concept. Some of my favorite albums are double albums (1999 used to be considered a double albu, and SOTT still is). Pink Floyd's "the wall", The Smashing Pumpkins "Mellancolly...".... all double albums.
I don't think Prince's last sprawling set (lotusflow3r) was an artistic failure (I consider it a double album), but I feel that it lacked emotion. That's the only thing I really would love the hear more of from Prince at this point. He's proven his gifts at writing catchy and somewhat interesting tunes--but his real genius was making that work with passion. That I would love to hear on a double album, or any album.
BTW, I'm a fan of Emancipation, so tripple albums suit me too.

While I understand your point on a Prince track keep in mind that at the time Tamar was 26. For him it's not very cool but for her it's not a stretch to have that style in her music. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

the longer we go without I think we have a chance he will release a double or triple or even having a day where he unleashes a bunch of albums, songs or whatever on us! Something special to mark the return. Always darkest before the dawn. I still believe we just won't know until a couple weeks before his next release.
In todays world if he worked with a single web designer I guess we may all not know and just wake up one day to the new album without knowing the night before. Now, I can't imagine waking up one day and tuning into the org and everone was a buzz to a triple album they never heard a word about. That would be bonkers. [Edited 6/26/12 19:59pm] What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

I think this is part of an overal way he presents himself. Many other musicians did the same (the Rolling Stones were doing that even when they all appeared to be 100 years old).
Prince hanging out with twins at fashion shows, dating dancers, and being seen with much younger women--it's all very Hugh Heffner, isn't it? But nobody seems to say that Tom Cruises's movies are worse because he's married to a younger woman, or that Mick Jagger sucks because his wife is younger, etc.
However, Tom Cruise isn't staring as 18 year old boys in his movies, and Jagger's music doesn't play catchup current music youth either.

I think we need another album where Prince sings about how he is the ultimate party machine on top of lame drum beats. Oh wait we already have 100 versions of this
