Don't understand the hate this song gets, and holding it up as some example of his terrible songwriting.

As I understand it, it was composed after that inspiring Vikings game - overnight - and handed to a local TV station the next morning as a little tribute, a lark. It wasn't "released" like an actual single, and it wasn't fully developed. When he gets excited about something, he writes a song about it. He did it just for fun.

For a little ditty that he dashed off in one night (probably in 10 minutes, considering he wrote "Love They Will Be Done" in 20 minutes), it's actually quite good! The lyrics are quite good.

But true, I'm not gonna listen to it over and over.

Like most easily-dismissable-at-first-glance music, I agree that it's not as "bad" as its reputation would have you believe, when you listen to it in context of what it's trying to be - i.e. a cheesy American Football anthem. There are some nice (albeit Midi-sounding) "orchestral" arrangement bits going on in the background. But yeah, it's not exactly something I feel the need to listen to more than once a year lol

Yeah, it's a fairy fight-song. It's "eloquent" and in a girly voice. So what? Fairies and fight-songs shouldn't mix?

As I said, one listen was enough for me in this lifetime, but for what it is - (not an official release or serious song but just having a little fun and dashing it off in probably 10 minutes with a toy organ) - it's pretty good.

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won’t bow down
this time we won’t b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar

that’s what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold

r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history – that’s y we must b
4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings’ horn
in the name of the purple and gold

razz lol

hmph! Go Chicago!

This song came out right before the Vikes played the Saints (bounty boyz). Classic good vs. evil. Who knew?

Who won?

Never listened to it, and don't have any intention of doing so.

no, this doesn't sound like an American football anthem at all.

what it sounds like is an Ivy League Debate Team anthem.

I like essentially every prince song I have ever heard (Scandalous sex suite not included) - but I cannot stand Purple and Gold - remarkably bad.

The real question is - how come nobody stopped him????

I've never listen to that song until I read this post..

Heard of it before, how bad it was, and decided to never give it a try..

I just listened to it for the first time..

I don't feel well... It's like if psycho bacterias in my brain wanted to play a game of Kid Icarus on Nintendo while killing each other..

Oh gawd, I have a headache...

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.
