If you listen to the 4th verse of "Pop Life"...Who comes to mind? If you listen to the 4th verse of Pop Life today does anybody come to mind?

i don't follow...
nobody comes to mind, unless you consider the 4th verse to be the one with 'whatchu puttin in your nose?', in which case I guess it makes me think of morris day? But that's only because I was prompted to think of someone. I've never before thought of anyone in particular when I've listened to this song (or the extended version, if that's where the 4th verse is...)

I guess it's from: Pop Life, the ext. UK 9 minutes long version...?
maybe one of you, could print those lyrics?
I can't recall what they're about. Prince 4Ever.

What's point are you trying to make?

I always thought that verse was about Morris. The rumours back then on why The Time broke up was supposedly his out of control ego and cocaine use.

No The Time broke up cause Prince fired Jam&Lewis, after that according to an interview i saw years ago with Jesse, Morris was that pissed cause it was supposed to be his band that he disappeared for over a month and went on a massive drugs and drink bender

I was referring to a star that left the earth in 2012...

He was referring to Vanity... probably wasn't the answer you were looking for but that's all I got from it. I don't think it was about Morris though Morris was on that white pony too.

^Ironically the Whitney song "Love Will Save The Day" was often compared to "Pop Life", but I personally never heard any similarities...

Are you out of your mind? For one, coke is used by many people in ent, Prince himself (I don't care what you want to believe but it is true) uses it. The person he was speaking of was no one, but a alot in general.

I've never thought of any of this song speaking to a specific person.
I'm firmly planted in denial

The song has nothing to do with Whitney.
Especially the part about
But there won't be no water
seeing as how...ya know...she drowned. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The song is more about accepting responsibility for how your life is going on not playing the victim or blaming "the world" for your woes.
"What's the matter with your life? Is society bringing you down? Is the mailman jerking you 'round? Did he put your million dollar check in someone else's box?"
"My life would be PERFECT if I didn't have to go to this STUPID JOB! If I just had more money everything would be GREAT!!"
"Whatcha puttin' in your nose? Is that were all your money goes? The river of addiction flows, but there will be no water, when the fire blows."
"My life is shit! I don't have money to pay my bills. My kids are hungry and we'll be homeless soon. Hey Mack see if you can get some (insert drug of choice). I can't deal with this right now."
This is actually one of my very favorite Prince songs because without being preachy, he's telling people to take a look at their lives. If they get rid of their bullshit, life really is sweet. I'm firmly planted in denial

LOL.
No. | |

I don't know how this song would've been said about Whitney anyways just based on the lyrics as folks have said already.

No dummy I'm not out of my mind. I know coke is used by many people and Prince couldn't possibly be singing a song released in 1985 about one particular star who would die in 2012. I'm saying part of the verse fits what caused her death according to the coroner.
And you say Prince himself uses it, really how do you know where you there when he was using it? Or is this suppose to be from a well documented reliabe source? And you say "uses it" as if he still uses it to this day??? Really?

This is what I get on the 5th verse on the Ext. Feel free to make any corrections if ive got it wrong.
What's the matter with your sex, Is 15 mins your best, I guess you , I guess you gotta get it off your chest, Why'd you need another love When you only have the best I guess that's Pop Life My body needs satisfaction, I want chemical reaction Everybody can't be on top, Life it ain't that funky Unless it's got that Pop. Prince once tried 2 change his name 2 a symbol so that ur'e mother couldn't find him in the phonebook!
