Unintentionaly stuck on post 94 Prince, Only 1? I've just realised that I havn't listened to anything before 1994 for a good couple of months. This is not a diss on that material which is beyond question as a work of genius, However the stuff from Gold. Come, Lotus Flower, NEWS, Rainbow Children and NPGMC have been floating my boat.
It might have been triggered by the 10,000, NPG Bum Rush The Ship and 1994 Promo DAT boots but It's been fun listening to stuff and realising there's some awesome Prince music just lost in the wealth of releases.
Anybody else on a similar trip at the moment?

While I'm not stuck on one area, per se, I do listen as much to his 90s and 00s music as I do to his 80s music. Now that could be because I listen to Prince's music in a chronological loop so that once I finish the latest work I return to For You and work my way through all of it until I get to the latest album, and then I do it all over again. Of course, I listen to music by other people, but like bookmarking a page, when I return to Prince I return to the album where I left and continue in chronological order. I did not purposefully create this way of engaging the music, but I seem to get richness and fullness from the musical and ideological journey this way than just listening to random albums or songs. I’m sure that the only reason I’ve been able to do this for so long is because I have yet to receive a Prince album in which I don’t like most of the songs. So, I don’t think it’s strange that you are getting as much pleasure from Prince’s post-1994 work as you have gotten from his pre-1994 work.

I've conciously done the chronological albums from start to finish and it's a great journey. I also enjoy listening to the album then all of the singles and outtakes in order.
Wow you can get geeky listening to his stuff.

I mainly only listen to the newest stuff or bootlegs. The old stuff is a bit tired and boring because I over listened to it over the years. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I used to DJ, trying to make 2 mixes right now for some friends, 1 a guy and 1 a girl. The guy I'm trying to make a gangster (or as much of a gangster as Prince could get) mix with some cool R&B songs in there cuz this guy, my friend, listens to a lot of hiphop. Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, Weezy, Tyler The Creator, but the guy fuckin loves "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World". He even said when he gets married he wants me to play that song at his wedding. The girl wants a dancy, gay-club friendly mix so that should be easy enough to make. I'm thinking about taking the "gangster" sounding songs from my guy friends mix and putting those songs on her mix too because she listens to a lot of Pac and Biggie too, but the only difference would be one has slow, R&B type songs on it and the other is upbeat and dancy.
So I've been skipping around the Prince discography quite a bit just trying to get these done, but I myself at the moment have been stuck on "Sister". I don't know what it is. That song just popped into my head at work the other day and I've just been playing that shit nonstop.

I normally listen to stuff that was released in the last 5 years. (I've always done that.) I do revisit albums. But, I go through periods where I also listen to my version of the Hits with the more recent releases. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I occasionally get stuck on 2004-present era stuff. I think because I haven't worn it out yet over the last few decades.
