Owl City (aka vocalist and songwriter Adam Young from Minnesota) has a new single out. A duet with Carly Rae Jepsen, whose own "Call Me Maybe" currently tops the Billboard charts.

The single is called "Good Time" and Adam gives a shoutout to a certain funky fellow Minnesotan in the opening two lines

I dig the track. Owl City's "All Things Bright & Beautiful" was one of my favorite albums of last year. Unfortunately it wasn't incredibly successful sales-wise so this time around it seems his label teamed him up with people like Carly Rae Jepsen and producers like Stargate (all his previous material was self-produced, which I preferred, but oh well)

This song defo sounds like it'll be a hit. Hopefully it'll encourage both Owl City and CRJ's young fanbases to become familiar with Prince.

Oh cool, I like Owl City. One of my favortite songs by them is The Saltwater room and the new song does sound like hit material. How many of us wake up with P's lyrics ringing about in our heads?

Both these singers are totally likeable but totally one hit wonders of our time

We will see what happens with this single...its totally radio friendly and fits todays paint by the numbers format so I'm sure it will be a hit

Has this single been released yet? I was looking around on Itune but didn't see it.. I love their song

"Fireflies" yes, kinda campy..but its a sort of feel good tune.

THAT SYNTH MUST BE THE 'Prince Song' in his head! It's totally 'Something In The Water'..He uses it three to four times, and I think for sure that is the song that what was in his head!

I don't mind this song..it fits with the music for today...if that serves as a compliment. lol

It's always great to hear someone give a shout to Prince, but no one should ever, EVER, EVVVERRR, EVER EVER EVER support this complete, absolute Postal Service-ripoff artist known as Owl City!!!

He should be forced to hand his money over to Ben Gibbard.

Yeah, and when they changed their name they started writing horrible lyrics.

It just makes me sick that when the Postal Service put out that first album, it got really huge because people were sharing it with each other for free. I don't think there were many actual album sales for that, even though it got really huge in the underground. Then along comes Owl City, COMPLETELY ripping off Postal Service. Next thing you know Owl City is selling tons of records and appearing at the Grammy's.

Firstly, Owl City isn't "a bunch" of anything. Owl City is one guy, Adam Young.

Secondly, I like his lyrics.

Thirdly..... you know there was SIX YEARS between the Postal Service's album and Owl City's major label debut? If Postal Service wanted to continue down that road and keep doing what they were doing, they had plenty of time and momentum. If they wanted to, they would have.

Fourthly, "All Things Bright & Beautiful" is a better album than the Postal Service's album. More range, more depth, more dynamic, just better songs.

Fifthly, you can't own a musical sound. The Postal Service didn't invent making dreamy electronic fuzzy synthpop.

OMG! Ironic lyrics and female guest singers!!!! What a rip!!!!

If anything, I think Owl City is more similar to Reliant K, but there's nothing there for pretentious indie-snobs to cry foul about since Adam and Matt from RK are good friends and have worked together numerous times.

Finally, this whole debate was already done to death when "Fireflies" came out THREE YEARS AGO. Owl City has made three albums since then, a lot of which doesn't sound anything like the Postal Service, and we have yet to see a Postal Service follow up to their album which is now almost a decade old.

Either like or don't like Owl City, but get over the fact that one musician was inspired by others (newsflash - happens every day). Either that or go stalk Ben Gibbard and blackmail him into making another PS album if it means that much to you.

It means nothing to me either way. I think Ben Gibbard writes bad, 14 year-old girl lyrics, too. How about I dislike BOTH but give credit to the one who did it first? Owl City was influenced by Postal Service? That's like saying Britny Fox was influenced by Cinderella. It's also like saying the second song on Nickelback's last album was influenced by the first song on the same album. There's a difference between having influences, making your own art and being "influenced" by only one person/thing and making a carbon copy of it. I'm a rabid fan of neither, but Owl City is merely making a replica of a product that is no longer on the market. It fills a void for teenage girls, I suppose. I'm glad SOMEONE'S getting paid in this economy, I just wish it was for doing something new and interesting. Prince is influenced by James Brown, George Clinton, Carlos Santana, etc. yet he sounds like none of those people. You can hear bits and pieces at times, but it's totally within the realm of possibility that someone could listen to a Prince song and not be able to name one single influence whereas Owl City evokes howls of nothing but PS rip-off. Hey, I'd like to buy a cheaper version of the same thing that hasn't been available in stores for a while, but I'm not going to pretend Cialis is anything but a copy of Viagra available ONLY because there's a hungry tween market for soundtracks by which one can feel sorry for oneself and/or misunderstood by all us cruel realists.

I could give 2 shits what Wikipedia says. Using my ears tells me that there is a whole lot more going on between those two "bands" than that Wikipedia quote. Ironic lyrics and female guest singers would also describe Frank Zappa at various points in his career and NO ONE would confuse him with PS or OC. OMG!!!

Also, I absolutely do not think Owl City is a carbon copy of Postal Service. A lot of the songs on his last album sound NOTHING like the Postal Service.

The new EP that just came out has co-productions from Stargate and Nicki Minaj's producers and a track with Mark from Blink 182 and none of it even sounds like the old Owl City material, much less Postal Service.
