The voice is doubled so it could've sounded like the deeper voice said it differently but he said "thief" as well...

I don't know, I just never heard "creep"... I always heard "thief".

I always thought it was "Queef".

Nowadays, I think he purposely overdubbed both "thief" and "queef".

Maybe one day, if Prince ever decides to have someone make a documentary on the album (which I doubt), the engineer could tell us what the two sides actually said so we can end this mystery.

Both voices are the same. He used a device called the Publison Infernal Machine - which is a pitch-shifter. It's the same effect on the voice at the beginning of the album.

I remember back when the album came out when a LOT of people were still questioning his sexuality (this was the Reagan era 80s afterall) rumor was that one voice says "Thief" and other says "Queer", thus "Queef"...

Another equally goofy rumor was that on "Let's Pretend We're Married" during the monologue at the end, one voice says "I'm in love with God" and the other says "I'm in love with guys"...

And then there's "VanTITTY" 6 is so sweet line also from DMSR

In my opinion, I think Prince simply used to be a sloppy multitracker

He definately says thief- as in Jamie Starr is stealing the credit/his sound.

I never heard anything but theif.

I always loved the hidden note he was giving listeners that he was behind the Time and Vanity 6.
