Pioneer Awards from Maceo.com :
Pioneer Awards February 20th New York Maceo was the proud recipient of a Pioneer Award from the Rythmn and Blues Foundation in recognition of his artistry and contributions to the genre of R&B. Other Pioneers included friend and fellow funkateer George Clinton. In attendance Fred Wesley who presented the award to Maceo and joined Maceo on stage for a rendition of Rabbits In the Pea Patch/Soul Power... Maceo and Fred then came back to the stage when George and Bootsy Collins instigated a P-Funk mini spectacle. Also present was Maceo's brother Melvin whom Maceo called onto the stage as a reminder of the fact that it was Melvin who was first hired by James Brown. Maceo said he was extremely proud to have worked with so many innovators over the years (James Brown, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins), and that it gave him enormous pleasure that he was now able to include Prince (who was in the audience) to the list . | |
